What’s on your to-do list today?

Kaleidoscope Yoga Studio 12.05.2021

A quote from one of the first books that I ever read at the beginning of my yoga journey long ago. And it certainly still resonates with me today..... "Yoga is not a work-out, it is a work-in. And this is the point of spiritual practice; to make us teachable; to open up our hearts and focus our awareness so that we can know what we already know and be who we already are. ~ from Meditations from the Mat by Rolf Gates This is the essence of my personal practise and of the Ge...ntle Yoga classes I offer at Kaleidoscope- supporting people’s journeys into themselves in a time when a lot of us are so divorced from our bodies. Offering tools to peek into your inner landscape, to truly feel, to develop a sense of somatic awareness and a trust in who you are within. Who cares if I may never stand on my head or be able to contort my body into the most twisty bendy pretzel pose? The gifts that come from a sense of knowing who I am deep inside my heart and soul can be accessed with the gentlest of poses when married with the beautiful power of the breath. See more

New to meditation or looking to add something new to your wellness toolkit? Curious what meditation is all about? Pop over to my website, and under the tab Just for You, you will find two short guided meditations/relaxations to sprinkle a bit of mindfulness in your day. All you have to do is to find a cosy place to rest, close your eyes (if that’s comfy for you) and listen ......that’s it! New meditations to be added shortly! Enjoy! ... I’d be grateful for your feedback and comments! www.kaleidoscopeyogastudio.ca

I bet we all have days when it is hard to remain positive and cheerful and brimming over with light and goodness.......especially now. Sometimes it’s hard to feel grateful, to see our blessings. When a sense of darkness and heaviness really begins to creep in to my day, bringing awareness to my breath to get out of my head and back in to my body sometimes helps. Sometimes I can even feel a difference after three breaths .....try it if you like - take a deep breath in through ...your nose, hold it at the top for as long as comfortable, then exhale long and slow through the mouth. Do it two more times but try to exhale even more slowly. How do you feel? Imagine waking up and doing that breath before you start your day. Imagine doing that breath before a meeting or a big event or when feeling stressed and overwhelmed . Imagine taking time to do 10 breaths in a row! Just imagine how that breath could support you..... Do what you can and let me know how it goes !

I come to my yoga mat for many different reasons - and sometimes just deciding to make time to unroll it can be an inner battle. Some days, I literally have to drag myself to my personal practise, but every time that I make the choice to step on my mat, I, without a doubt find something I need. During stormy times in my life, my yoga mat has served as a refuge, and I practise poses that feel grounding and safe to me. My little 68x24 sanctuary sometimes invites a sense... of surrender, a place of vulnerability - some days that meant crawling on my mat and just sobbing in child’s pose; other days that meant practising vigorously to feel strong and empowered with a Warrior series; other days a few long held nourishing Restorative poses to open my heart was called for. But whatever happens on my mat, it is always a place of rejuvenation, a place of renewal, a place of connection and inner awareness .....a coming home to myself. And the common thread, no matter what is happening in my external world, is that I am always grateful for having made the choice to come to my mat. I believe that this beautiful gift of the transformative nature of yoga is meant to be shared with others, during calm times and during rocky times, and all of the times in between. This is my inspiration at Kaleidoscope Yoga and I can hardly wait to see you in studio when we are able ! (Follow us on Instagram @kaleidoscopeyogastudio)

In the Family Yoga class this morning, a lovely 4 year old yoga pal gifted me with this beautiful sparkly hand painted rock - I was soooo touched and delighted! And I found a very special place in my studio to honor her beautiful little open heart and her kindness.

The turn of the year allows us to inhale our hopes, wishes, dreams and prayers for ourselves, for those we love and for those whom we don’t even know, as we move forward into 2021. On the exhalation, we have an opportunity to recognize and release things that are no longer serving us. 2020 has provided dramatic clarity on what is important in life - embrace what fills your heart and feeds your soul as we journey into a new beginning.

Our Winter Solstice Celebration is an invitation to take the time and space for ***Reflection ***Rest and ***Ease This celebration of the darkest night invites us to turn our awareness inward to reflect on our year (and boy, has it been a year!) and to explore what we’d like to let go of and what we’d like to plant as seeds of hope as we move forward. ... We begin with a guided meditation and breath practice to arrive and settle in to our bodies; next we share slow, mindful, heart opening yoga postures to prepare ourselves for the journey inward; finally, a long savasana/relaxation at the end of class to allow our intentions to settle and take root. Together, let’s set a beautiful, peaceful rhythm for the holidays and perhaps allow us to gain clarity to guide us toward a bright new year. Monday, December 21st 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm $25 investment (Suitable for ALL)
