Meet Layna! The founder of Kaleo Collective. At 16 Layna found herself pregnant with her son Austin. She was lucky to have the love and support of a few key people in her life but no one understood what she was going through as a teen in high school with a new baby. Kaleo Collective was born to be the support for other single moms. Supporting a single mom on her mission to create a safe, stable home life, and the opportunity to realize HER full potential, allows her to help... her children realize theirs. Kaleo is here to offer community, compassion, encouragement and practical help! Meet the Whitlows! They are Edmonton’s most lovable acoustic duo. Married to music, and to each other, Joe and Ariana perform your favourite tunes and share hilarious stories about their hectic life with 3 spirited young children. Their pandemic-inspired living room livestreams, #FriyayWithTheWhitlows, quickly became a favourite source of lockdown entertainment featuring interactive games, amusing themes and comical costumes (like that time Joe painted himself blue to be Ala...ddin’s genie!). Their popular Campfire Concert series brought the show to local neighbourhoods, where they performed safe, lively street concerts by firelight. Catch them this summer performing live from your street with The Whitlow’s Singing Lemonade Stand. They will also be joining us on April 17th at our Kaleo event; One Starry Night

Since 2016, we have empowered single moms to drive positive change. In just a few years, Kaleo has grown to help nearly 500 women and children change their lives for the better. We provide a safe, supportive environment that teaches practical life skills to create positive habits, break unhealthy cycles and open doors to personal and career development opportunities. Our Purpose is to help single moms better their lives and, in turn, their children’s lives. Our Mission is to ...build a community of empowered single moms by breaking the cycles of financial and emotional poverty through support and programming. Our Vision is to create healthy, sustainable families. Without the help of donations, and fundraising events such as One Starry Night, we wouldn’t be able to offer these single moms these resources and support. Here is what she had to say: Becoming a single mother can be a difficult and dark time full of struggles. You are grieving the loss of what you thought life was going to be while learning to meet your childrens' needs on your own. The biggest blessings are the people in your life that are lifting you up, giving you support, resources, and community, like Kaleo. T...hese people become shining lights, making the darkness less lonesome and scary. This made me think of all the people that have helped me in big and small ways and how they are like stars lighting up the night sky. It takes many stars to outshine the night and turn darkness into a beautiful lit up sky, just like it takes many people to shine hope for single mamas.
