Refreshing! We can learn so much from kids.
We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with Pikiskwetan to bring an Indigenous Teachings and Mental Health workshop to our youth. This workshop w...ill consist of four evening activities two weeks apart and take place over zoom. For more information about this workshop email our youth coordinator at [email protected] or call the office at 780-539-7142.
Welcome to Paramount, Grande Prairie! If you’re paying for therapy & counselling without the assistance of health insurance, our pre-licensed therapists have ...conveniently lower rates. Call us to ask about our options! Never been to therapy before and not sure how the process works, or who to book with? We’re more than happy to walk you through the process and place you with the right person. More comfortable with a virtual appointment than in-person? We’ve got you covered. We have appointments available, and wonderful therapists accepting new clients! Call our office during reception hours for any inquiries, questions, or bookings. Photo by Rose & Sparrow Photography
April, you are the glue!
My intention as a therapist:
Great reminder!
Meet the owners! Kalua Rhody is the co-owner of Paramount Psychology & Counselling. She obtained her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from McGill Unive...rsity and registered as a psychologist in Quebec in 2008; shortly thereafter, she moved to Grande Prairie to begin a new chapter of her life in the beautiful Peace Region. Kalua started her career at PACE Sexual Assault Centre where she offered counselling, education and facilitation on the topics of trauma-informed practice, sexual abuse, self-esteem, and women’s wellness in both Grande Prairie and Peace River. In 2009, Kalua taught an introductory psychology course at the Grande Prairie Regional College which solidified her aspiration to mentor students and eventually supervise provisional psychologists entering into the field. It was also during these years that she first connected with her friend and business partner, Ruth Proulx, and the seeds of Paramount Psychology & Counselling were planted. In 2012, Kalua launched her private practice, Healing Horizons, Inc., offering individual and couples’ therapy services to adolescents and adults with a wide range of concerns. As a lifelong learner, she has trained in many cutting-edge and traditional counselling approaches over the years. In addition to seeing clients and co-managing the business operations of Paramount Psychology & Counselling, Kalua’s current role also includes the privilege of supervising provisional psychologists. She aids in their development of skills necessary to contribute to the betterment of society through quality mental health counselling. Service to humanity is the foundation upon which she has built her life and she is grateful to be able to serve the amazing community of Grande Prairie in all the ways she can.
Meet the owners! Ruth Proulx is a Registered Psychologist, Social Worker and noteworthy leader in her field. She is the co-owner of Paramount Psychology & Couns...elling and owner and operator of Mountain View Psychological in Grande Prairie, Alberta where she works as a respected therapist, educator, facilitator, consultant, clinical supervisor and director. Ruth is also a sessional Instructor of Psychology at Grande Prairie Regional College and PACE, Grande Prairie’s Sexual Assault and Trauma Centre. After being born and raised in the Northwest Territories, she moved to Alberta on a volleyball and soccer scholarship where she studied social work and psychology. Having a passion for both fields, Ruth graduated with a Masters of Science in Psychology from Walden University and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary. A now distinguished traumatologist, Ruth specializes in sexual and relational violence, post traumatic stress disorder (ptsd), first responders, relationships, addictions, attachment, as well as rural, remote and Indigenous practice and healing modalities. She has dedicated her career to trauma informed best practice and education, and has been honoured for her contributions. Ruth is an awarded Canadian humanitarian, a Duke of Edinburgh award recipient, a Witness to the House of Commons Special Committee on Violence Against Indigenous Women, and has earned her coveted jump wings. She is beyond passionate about helping others, as well as helping others understand trauma and resilience. Along with her professional pursuits, you will find Ruth mentoring and supervising psychology students and professionals alongside business partner Kalua Rhody, as well as volunteering her time with many non-profit groups, athletics programs, and philanthropy clubs within her community.
We do it together. I can’t do it for you, but I can help you understand yourself better and support you in taking the steps necessary for your healing and freedom.
