Thank-you to Kelsey Grimm from Healing Spaces for speaking with us today about mental health and burnout. For teaching us to recognize the signs and symptoms within ourselves and others that can lead to burnout, and for reminding us to practice mindfulness and have strategies to combat the stresses in our lives. Thanks Kelsey!

An interesting study looking at Collegiate level athletes. Vitamin D helps to regulate calcium levels in your body, so it makes sense that low levels of Vitamin D can negatively affect bone health.

An interesting, thought provoking study that could show promise in aiding the prevention of some ankle sprains. It will be interesting to see what impact this could have (if any) on court shoe manufacturers.

Exercising your Brain - This holiday season, many Canadians are feeling the strain of the pandemic. During this challenging time, a lot of people are using reg...ular exercise to stay in shape. Thank You! Thank you! If 2020 taught us anything, it includes an appreciation and focus on the things that are important in life. Connections to family and frie...nds, an appreciation for the healing effects of nature, the value of supporting our community and the ability to ask for help when we need it. The KPCC asked for all of this, when we started our fundraising drive for the month of December, and the community responded. Wow, did you ever! We initially set a goal to match the $1500.00 generously donated by Kamloops Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre. We did that during the initial days of the campaign, so we adjusted our goal to double that - to $3,000.00 in community donations. Of the four local networks that the KPCC manages, the Isobel Lake Winter Network is our newest network, but it requires a lot of volunteer efforts to maintain, with a dedicated team of groomers, 2 snowmobiles, a roller groomer, a grooming drag, a trailer to haul everything and insurance to cover it all. These funds raised will not only support the Isobel groomed trails, but will help us maintain the Pineview Trail Network, which is a local favourite all summer. And now, its time to thank our donors! WE DID IT! 50 community members responded to our challenge and donated a total of $3,740.00, adding their financial support to the amazing donation of $1500.00 from Kamloops Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre! The KPCC would also like to again acknowledge recent community club donations of $500.00 to the Pineview Trail Network from the members of the Kamloops Bike Riders Association - KBRA and $500.00 from the Kamloops Hiking Club, for the Isobel and Pineview Networks that we all share and enjoy! Thank you very much everyone! Your support is so appreciated. You can donate anytime by etransfer to [email protected] and watch for opportunities to assist us with trail days coming next spring. Until then, stay healthy everyone. Our community is awesome. Happy Trails in 2021!

Thank you to all the riders who have reached out and requested we continue the fundraiser past the original goal set by Kamloops Physiotherapy. Local riders ha...ve suggested we try to double the goal amount to $3000. Funds will go directly back to maintaining and upgrading the trails in the Isobel and Pineview trail networks. Kicking this off local rider Leif Ernst came in with a $500 donation. Amazing! So much appreciation for all the donors from the KPCC! Thanks to everyone making great things possible in the Kamloops riding community. Did you hear the news reports that physiotherapy, kinesiology and massage therapy services may be able to resume in-clinic appointments in BC as early as May 19th? At Kamloops Physiotherapy we are very excited and very busy preparing for the earliest possible date to resume in-clinic services. There are many details to work out and our schedule is not set yet. We are waiting on guidelines from the College of Physical Therapists and WorkSafe BC on how we can best ensure the co...ntinued health of our staff and our valued patients in this second phase. We presently continue to serve our current patients and assess new patients with our very successful Tele-Rehabilitation service. We will definitely be continuing to offer these Virtual Video appointments together with in-clinic service when we do return to seeing people in the clinic. Our capacity for in-clinic services may be reduced so Tele-Rehabilitation will allow us to serve more patients. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the date for resumption of in-clinic service. You will definitely hear from us personally when we are ready to start booking you in.We are looking forward to re-connecting with you all in the days and weeks to come!

With most of us stuck inside most of our days it is still a good idea to get outside on your own or with your family for some physically distanced exercise. When Kevin Stoll, Jen Jones and John Howick are not inside helping their patients with Tele- Rehabilitation video appointments they have been getting outside on bikes or skis.

This year one tradition got turned around at our house as our daughters had us parents running through the neighborhood on a clever scavenger hunt. (John looked extra cool carrying his little basket up and down the streets). Happy Easter everyone from Kamloops Physiotherapy. Peace and good health to all.

Are you wondering how you can access a physiotherapist at Kamloops Physiotherapy while maintaining social distancing? Are you unsure if your extended benefits plan will cover Tele-Rehabilitation? Presently ICBC, Great West Life/Canada Life and Sun Life have stated they consider a Tele-Rehab Virtual Visit equivalent to an in-clinic visit and are thus covering physiotherapy as they typically have. Pacific Blue Cross has announced that they are covering Tele-Rehabilitation follo...w-up appointments for our current clients (except policy # 50000). If your insurance company is not listed here contact them and ask them what their coverage policy is on Virtual Visits/Tele-Rehabilitation. Our association is speaking with as many insurance companies as they can to advocate for extended medical benefit coverage for Tele-Rehabilitation so you can continue to access your physiotherapist during this time of social distancing. A Tele-Rehab appointment may include assessment, instruction in self-treatment techniques, education on your injury/condition, exercises and exercise progression, monitoring and guiding you through the stages of injury and rehabilitation to the best of our ability. Just call us at 250-314-0788 and we will take care of you! See more

Kamloops Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre has moved into a period of altered service delivery to facilitate social distancing. Wednesday March 18th both the downtown clinic on Seymour and our Tudor Village location will not be open for in-clinic visits to take place. Moving forward we will be following the guidelines of The College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia who have strongly recommended that physiotherapists working in the community setting only do so ...to address patients with urgent needs. You will be contacted regarding any visits that you have already booked. We are developing the capacity to offer Tele-Rehabilitation for those wanting a virtual visit. This type of session could be utilized for such things as to get direction with your exercises, to learn pain self-management techniques and education. We will announce when this service is available. We will resume typical operation when it has been determined that this is the best thing to do for the health of our community and we have been given direction from our national and provincial associations to do so. Presently the projected date for resumption of more typical service is Monday April 6, 2020. Our phones will still be open and we will be working behind the scenes to help us all adapt and move forward in this constantly evolving situation. You can also contact me at [email protected] if you have questions and I will personally answer or will direct your query to the best person to get you the information you require. In this challenging time we want you to know that although your typical treatment session may not be occurring we are still here to support you in any way we are able.
