POOR SPORT ARE DEFINED BY WHAT THEY ARE NOT. THEY ARE NOT FAIR Every breed produces specimens of different styles and fashions that still fit within the breed’s standard. Poor Sports are intolerant of other individual’s preferences. They spend hours viciously running down competitors whose dogs differs from the dog they own or handle. They see breeds as monoliths, ideally represented solely by whatever they have at the end of their own leads. THEY ARE NOT COURTEOUS... They are quick to react to any perceived wrong. Touch their ringside chair and risk a human bite. Questions from novices are beneath them. They take every opportunity to demoralize and undermine the novice’s confidence in their dogs and their ability. Common courtesies are forgotten away from the show grounds too. The unsportsmanlike leave their show grounds damaged and soiled. THEY ARE NOT GRACEFUL IN VICTORY AND DEFEAT. Dog show wins become reasons to goat, boast and further attack competitors and fellow fanciers. Their losses, though, inevitably result from unseemly politics, poor judging, and lack of ethics or outright bribery. Very bad sports sometimes do worse things. Dog shows, after all, only mirror an increasingly more violent, less ethical society. Dog shows are highly subjective, excellent dogs often lose and poor specimens often win. Therefore, fanciers who invest all their emotional energy into winning dog shows set themselves up for unending frustration. And often become bitter, shallow and defensive. Though poor sports will always exits, a balanced dog hobby will help. Gen involved in other dog-related activities. Pursue education (for yourself and others). Promote ethical breeding. Participate in canine public relations. Participate in Clubs. Nurture newcomers. AND PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH. See more

What Makes a Hoarder? Hoarders are most likely mentally ill to one degree or another. They are not deliberately cruel in fact, they love their animals very much, and may even believe, despite their circumstances, that they are providing proper care. They keep an unusual number of dogs, and may try to justify their behavior by claiming that they are breeders. Of course breeders do have more dogs than most of us, but that’s because dogs are the cornerstone of their business. A breeder’s dogs will also be in good condition, and there will not be more animals than is practical for the space available.
