READ THIRD JOHN. DWELL ON GOOD NEWS OF FAITHFUL PEOPLE. MEMORIZE VERSE 3, NIV -It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. KJV - For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. NLT - Some of the traveling teachers recently returned and made me very happy by telling me about your faithfulness and ...that you are living according to the truth. Many people have told me that they don't watch the news, or rarely watch. It's too depressing, some say. What an amazing thing thing that, at a time in history when life is in many ways at its best where we live, the news that comes across should make us feel depressed! Here is part of the secret to living with joy and enjoyment of life: Search out those stories of individuals and groups who are faithful to Jesus, in our country and faraway countries. And listen to John, Vs. 4: I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. If your flesh and blood children are living close to Jesus, OR if those you've helped to faith in Jesus are walking with Him, you have cause to rejoice deeply. Do it! A PRAYER FOR TODAY: LORD, I think of people who are faithfully living for You and serving You, and my joy level goes up! THIS IS DAY 64: OF MEMORIZED WORDS: FIRST MEMORIZE; THE MEANING WILL GROW ON YOU. Apr. 19/21. 'The first year, I have the students memorize...The second year I tell them what it means' (A pastor telling how he taught Luther's shorter catechism.) Robert Wilkins responded: What is the value of having youngsters memorize words without telling them what they mean? Years later I realize this pastor was much wiser than I (Robert Wilkins). Stephen Ruten: I want to give about one line or so from each book to memorize. Hopefully what is given to memorize penetrates the book's meaning. I offer three translations: NIV or New International Version; KJV or King James Version; NLT or New Living Translationpick one. Let me know what you think. (This the 54th Series of 66-Day Adventures, written by S. Ruten) (In quotes, NIV used-unless otherwise indicated) Would you like to receive the current Adventure in the process of being written week by week, and sent out by email every Saturday night? READ FIRST PETER CHAPTER 4. PREPARE FOR PERSECUTION FROM OUTSIDE CHURCH. MEMORIZE 4:14, NIV - If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. KJV-If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. NLT - If you are insulted because you bear the name of Christ, you will be blessed, for the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you. This firs...t letter of Peter was written to prepare these Christians for suffering to come. Some countries in the world are very purposeful and organized in targeting Christians to stop the spread of their faith. Other countries enjoy remarkable freedom to spread the message of Jesus. I think we live in one of those! But we don't know what the future holds, and Peter was preparing the Christians he wrote toand usfor an unknown future. A PRAYER FOR TODAY: LORD JESUS, help us to prepare in a matter-of-fact way for the unknown future. Help me to bear graciously and kindly with small insults to my faith in Jesus. That is good preparation to fortify me for the real thing! THIS IS DAY 60: OF MEMORIZED WORDS: FIRST MEMORIZE; THE MEANING WILL GROW ON YOU. Apr. 15/21. 'The first year, I have the students memorize...The second year I tell them what it means' (A pastor telling how he taught Luther's shorter catechism.) KJV - Receive him for ever; 16 not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved. NLT - Back forever. 16 He is no longer like a slave to you. He is more than a slave, for he is a beloved brother. Philemon was a Christian, Onesimus his slave. The slave had run away, and in the course of time, become a Christian thr...Continue reading
