MORNING HAS BROKEN Three young Canadian biathletes made their debut on the IBU Cup circuit, Thursday. We asked Shilo-Biathlete Rousseau, Zoe Pekos and Toby Quin...n to tell us about their day. Shilo (75th): "I’m super happy about shooting 9/10 today, I was a bit worried about the range before the race, since the wind conditions have been quite difficult the last two days here. Skiing felt tough, my legs felt quite fatigued, but that was to be expected since I just got to Europe about a week ago. All in all, I’m pretty encouraged by how today went, and I’m excited to see what I can do in the next races! I’ll definitely remember the huge field size, I’ve never done a race with 135 competitors before in biathlon." Zoe (96th): "I’m feeling pretty good about my race, I’m really encouraged with how my shooting went, especially in the tricky wind conditions. I’ve been working a lot on it over the past two years, and I think that’s starting to pay off now. In terms of skiing, it was feeling a bit rough, but it will only get better from here the longer I stay in Europe! I’m just feeling very lucky to be able to race at all this year." Toby Quinn (131st): "Well I'm glad the first one is out of the way! Definitely not even remotely close my best showing shooting or skiing but it's good to finally have a feel for international competition. Hey it’s Dave finished grooming the open trails at Kamview! Looking pretty choice! Dudley’s is pretty ruff old skis are recommended! Boys are shovelling this morning lower aspen is closed while they work on it ! Remember mask with in 100m of the chalet no gathering in the parking lot or at the chalet! Do a snow dance! Ski it to believe it!

Their blitz coincides with Lappe Nordic’s Distance Challenge - come on out and ski as many kilometers as you can in a day. Your pace. Be prepared! Having all your gear ready for practice is going to be even more important this winter for our youth in programs. Here are some tips from our ski... team parents: - Make a list to follow each week - Pack as much as you can the night before, including checking that your gear is dry - Keep a mask in your drink belt/pocket, in addition to hand sanitizer, hand warmers, and a snack - Pack extra layers, or a change of clothes, for after practice - Leave back-up supplies in your car to use in a pinch (buff, toque, mitts, mask, etc) Let’s go skiing!

Snowmaking 101 with Dave Suttie! Kamview Nordic Centre is fortunate to have snowmaking capabilities. Our main system was built from parts and pieces scavenged from the old Domtar mill in Red Rock. The pump and generator house is located next to the stadium area. Steel pipes run along the Sun Up trail from near the chalet down to the stadium to just past the entrance to the Northern Lights trail. We have 3 snow guns that are moved to wherever they are needed.
