Happy opening day from Kanata G&CC! #staysafe @kanatagcc
Our staff hard at work getting ready for opening day. See you Saturday!
We are relieved that golf courses will be able to remain open during the stay at home order. As always we will have strict health and safety protocols in place and we look forward to seeing you for opening day! #staysafe
Lots of snow melt on the course this weekend which means golf season is right around the corner. A friendly reminder to avoid walking down the middle of the golf course though, especially when there is frost.
25 years ago today, Shooter McGavin blew a 4 stroke lead on the back 9 of the 1996 Tour Championship. Happy Gilmore would win his first gold jacket by a single stroke. #playitasitlies #gotoyourhappyplace
Now more than ever it is important to speak up about mental illness to help others. You have a voice and it matters! #bellletstalk #endthestigma
Course maintenance never stops: Even with the snow you will continue to see our full time staff on the golf course removing dead trees and over grown brush areas. Our staff will be abiding by all safety and socially distant protocols, and for now will be focusing on the most essential / high risk areas. It is best to address large tree projects in the winter, as it helps limit damage to the golf course plus allows us to do the work with less traffic from golfers. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you out on the course for a great 2021 season!
With the golf course closed for the season, we continue to ask all of our residents walking and skiing on the property to avoid doing so on all of our short grass areas (greens, tees and fairways). This is especially important for our greens, and to help we have identified the areas to stay outside of with red stakes. Even though there is snow coverage, walking or skiing on the snow compacts it making it impossible for air to move though. Compacted areas will also turn to... ice very quick, and a heavy layer of ice on the short grass areas can suffocate and kill the grass underneath. Kanata G&CC is well know our fantastic course conditions, so avoiding these areas will continue to help us offer a great golfing experience. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you back on the course soon.

With our greens tarped for the winter, and a continued stretch of decent weather you will see our staff out on the course cutting trees and clearing brush. This is part of our regular maintenance of the golf course and continuing to maintain these areas will provide optimal conditions as well as ensure the safety of our golfers and the surrounding homes. In preparation for winter tree work our staff assess all areas of concern during the summer while areas are still in fol...Continue reading
All of our staff did a great job making sure our greens were tarped in time for the winter season. While the golf course is closed many residents will be walking and skiing on the course, but we continue to ask you to please staff off the greens during the winter season. We have already placed stakes and ropes around some greens, and will be installing more during the week. In the meantime most of our greens are marked by red or metal stakes, so if you could stay outside o...f them that would be greatly appreciated. Why stay off the greens? Although the greens are tarped, foot and ski traffic on top of the snow actually compresses it and can result in heavier ice forming on top of the tarp. Snow can help insulate the green, and snow is light enough where oxygen can still pass through it. Compressing the snow will turn it solid resulting in ice in the long term, and since ice is solid it doesn't allow air to circulate. If there is heavy ice on top of the tarps for too long (similar to our 2018/2019 winter) the grass starts to die off resulting in weak conditions to start the season. Thank you for your attention to this, and with all of our help we will all be able to continue enjoying the great conditions of our golf course. Stay safe!
Unfortunately another lengthy frost delay today. A reminder to everyone in our community, including homeowners and members, to please stay off the golf course when there is frost. Frost is a frozen dew that crystalizes on the grass, making it hard and brittle to touch. Blades of grass consist of 90 percent water, which is why it freezes so easily. If someone or something was to walk on the frozen grass this would cause the plant to break and the grass cell walls to rupture, hindering the grass to grow normally. This can cause extreme damage as shown in the attached picture (not our course), so if everyone could abide by this to help ensure this doesn't happen and we can keep our course in the best shape possible that would be greatly appreciated,
How can you not love fall golf?
