Learn to Ski programs may be cancelled due to COVID, but parents and kids can use the tips to have a good time on the trails.

Kanata Nordic 15.01.2021

Just a note to parents (and adults as well) that there are instructional guides on the Kanata Nordic website to help get your novice skiers under way. For kids, there are easy-to-follow age-appropriate diagrams here: http://www.kanatanordic.ca/coaches-corner/ And for getting a better sense of the techniques, there are four different video/skill analysis/skill progression guides here: http://www.kanatanordic.ca/coaches-corner/#nordiq on classic diagonal stride, uphill herring...bone, downhill and double poling techniques. We know it's not the same as the lessons, but hope it helps!

It's great seeing all the people out on the trails now that the snow is here. That said, we know that it can be frustrating when you see people walking on the groomed ski tracks, especially at the campground trails. Let's remember that honey catches more flies than vinegar. Please be kind in your interactions with the hikers. If they're walking in the middle of the track or worse, on the classic tracks? Point out how they can help others by staying on the opposite side of th...e classic tracks. If they have a dog, you can let them know that's against the rules at both the Wesley Clover Parks campground & equestrian facilities. But no one wins if we make the lost walkers feel upset, uncomfortable or angry. Getting into an argument means everyone loses - and is more likely to spread aerosols. Let's be friendly and be ambassadors of the club out there. Ideally, evangelize the awesomeness of Nordic skiing - once they start skiing, they're not going back to merely trudging around!

While the colours no longer look quite this good, it's still a nice view. Any idea where you would find this spot on the trail network?

Quick reminder that the Ski Swap is going on at Kunstadt Kanata this month. If your kids have outgrown their gear - now's the time to sell them onwards to other families! 1) The store has consignment swap forms and a sales binder ready to go. When you drop off your old equipment, fill out the form, describe the gear and note the selling price (wear a mask!). 2) You keep a copy of the form and so does the store. 3) Then the equipment gets tagged and will be moved onto the s...tore floor. 4) Kunstadt keeps track of the sales 5) Come back November 2nd and pick up your cheque, in-store credit or take back the unsold gear. What is in it for you? For the club? The revenue split will be 70% goes to owner of the skis, 20% goes to Kanata Nordic, and 10% stays with Kunstadt Sports. Remember, Ski Swap starts October 5th and ends November 2nd.

Everything is different in 2020! This year, for our annual autumn Ski Swap, Kanata Nordic is partnering with Kunstadt Sports‘ Hazeldean Rd. location. Starting October 5th, all Kanata Nordic members can drop off any (gently) used nordic equipment. Here’s how it will work: 1) The store will have consignment swap forms and a sales binder ready to go. If you’re dropping off your old equipment, you need to fill out the form, describe the gear and note the selling price (wear a m...ask!). 2) You keep a copy of the form and so does the store. 3) Then the equipment gets tagged and will be moved onto the store floor. 4) Kunstadt keeps track of the sales 5) Come back November 2nd and pick up your cheque or unsold equipment. If you would prefer? Kunstadt will give in-store credit towards new equipment as well as a cheque. What is in it for you? For the club? Well, the revenue split will be 70% goes to owner of the skis, 20% goes to Kanata Nordic, and 10% stays with Kunstadt Sports. Remember, Ski Swap starts October 5th and ends November 2nd.
