My new single NASO is out now NASO is a song that was written from a place of hurt from my renewed knowledge about colonialism. I wrote the song shortly after the infamous Lekki Toll Gate Massacre that took place in Lagos Nigeria in October 2020. The idea behind the song was to hold up a mirror to the society that made this a reality. At the time, it seemed that Nigeria was once again in a state of disarray and I believed that one of the reasons this was the case was becaus...e of the impact of colonialism in the county. When a country is colonized and their way of life has been transformed to fit the western ideal, it becomes difficult for that country to find its agency. The word NASO means, Like that OR That’s how. The hook directly translates to that’s how they did us. This song tries to get its listeners to place themselves in the shoes of the colonized. Asking the question, how would you feel if your whole world was taken away? I believe this question is very important because it comes from a place of empathy. I believe the best way to understand a situation is by placing yourself in the scenario and that is exactly what the first half of the song reflects. The questions asked and the tone of the hook translate a non-hostile feeling because violence isn’t always the answer.
