New to Karateristics and on display the creative sterling jewellery by creator Alfi Elden. About15 years ago Alfi Elden spent five days in a goldsmith’s shop at Hope Bay on Pender Island. She watched as he soldered sterling silver and gold, pulled wire through different gauges, rolled sheets of silver thinner and thinner, and set gem stones in bezels and claws. Her first ‘studio’ was a 1980 Chev postal van that she could stand up in and had a solar panel with an inverter. S...he learned the grassroots work of locating, defining and extracting precious metals and stones from the Earth. Always intrigued by the wearable art of nomadic cultures Although today Arte Fact Jewels are created at a workbench in Lillooet, B.C. nomadic technology and aesthetics continue to influence their designs.
