Dear Karateka, It is with great sadness and deep appreciation that we announce the passing of Master Mitsusuke Harada Sensei. He left this mortal sphere peacef...ully from his home on Friday, February 26th, 2021 with 5th Dan Marie Kellett faithfully by his side. This announcement is being made at a later date as it was Sensei's wish that his passing not become a spectacle. He hoped that we might gather together some time after the fact to celebrate his life and legacy, which we hope to do in the future. As his passing occurred on my birthday, it will be a year that I will never forget, and which every year hereafter will bring thoughts and feelings of gratitude for a man that I deeply respect. With some notable figures in our lives, the more we get to know them, the less impressive they seem to be. My experiences with Harada Sensei have been exactly the opposite. Having been blessed to practice with him in England and America, having stayed at his home and watched a samurai movie or two with him, and chatted about karate and life over dinner, the more impressed I have become. As the years passed my respect grew for his character, his great intellect, and his pure motives for sharing his art. I personally owe all that I now understand and love about the martial arts to him and his research and kindness over a lifetime of devotion to his craft. As members of this organization we owe everything that we do to his genius. He will be noted in history as a true master in every sense of the word. On behalf of the members of American KDS, we offer our sincere and heartfelt thanks for his life and our associations with him. May we all vow to honor his memory by continuing as a united group, and striving to carry on the great work that he left to our care.
