There may be a little snow on the ground but it’s not too early to think about planting a tree! (The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The next best time is now!) To celebrate Earth Days at home while continuing to support the City’s One Million Trees initiative, Forestry is giving away 500 trees to residents to plant on their private property this spring! Beginning on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22 at 5 p.m., residents can log on to onemilliontrees.eventbrite.com to ...register to receive a free tree of their choice from an inventory of 250 trees. An additional 250 trees will become available on Wednesday, May 5 for anyone who was unable to claim a tree during the first offering. Trees will be delivered to residents’ homes during the month of May and delivery information and planting instructions will be provided closer to the time of delivery. Details

We are expecting a few centimetres of snow tonight (cruel joke Mother Nature!). It’s very late in the season so the City does have reduced capacity for snow clearing. Please stay off the roads if there are accumulations. Hopefully this will all melt by tomorrow afternoon. Stay safe!

Posting from the Clarkson, Lorne Park and Park Royal FB Page: Hello Clarkson!!! We have 2 Coyotes with mange in the PARK ROYAL area and 1 In the BIRCHWOOD PARK area There have been 3 sightings in the last few days. ***Please DO NOT FEED THEM, they are not starving, they just have mites that make them very itchy and their fur falls off. They eat well, they just look slim because they have fur loss. Please call in all sightings to TWC (416) 631-0662.... please do not call Anim...al services or 311 as they are not affiliated or equipt for this type of ongoing tracking, capture and treatment*** Feel free to also message me if you see one. Please report sightings even if you saw it earlier in the day, as TWC tracks every sighting to figure out their moments so they know where to search when they come to the area. Crime Alert: I have been made aware of car thefts in Ward 2 over the weekend, in particular the theft of Lexus vehicles. Peel Police from 11 Division said that there is at least one very organized group stealing Lexus’s and Toyota Highlanders from residential driveways. This group is very sophisticated. Peel Police assembled a team of investigators dedicated to resolving these thefts. In them meantime, please take the following measures to prevent auto thefts:... Avoid leaving a running vehicle unattended. Ensure you always lock car doors and roll up your windows. Consider using anti-theft devices (steering wheel lock, an automatic engine shut-off, and/or a tracking device). Remember to lock your garage door. Avoid storing valuables or packages in open sight in your vehicles (place them out of sight or in the trunk). Use a Faraday box to store your key fob(s). Below is a news article that caught some criminals on video in Toronto recently using sophisticated technology. I’ve been in contact with Peel Police about hosting a virtual community meeting on crime so stay tuned for a date and time. https://www.cbc.ca//high-tech-vehicle-theft-42-division-1.

Open Letter and Call to Action (Pls Share!): To our Credit Valley Conservation Friends, Visitors and Supporters, This year has been challenging for us all. The pandemic has strained nearly every aspect of our lives, from health, to family, to finances and more. At CVC, it brought into focus just how important our protected natural spaces are for keeping everyone healthy, happy and safe.... As Chair of CVC, I’m reaching out to ask for your help. On November 5, the provincial government tabled Bill 229 Protect, Support, and Recover from COVID-19 Act (Budget Measures), 2020. This bill is more than its name suggests. Hidden inside is Schedule 6 with proposed changes to the Conservation Authorities Act that will reduce our ability to protect sensitive natural areas and keep people and property safe from natural hazards. Schedule 6 needs to be removed before Bill 229 is passed in the coming weeks and voices like yours can make all the difference. We need our friends, allies and supporters to act today by emailing your MPP via this easy-to-use form. What are the Major Concerns with the Legislation? 1. Changes to the Conservation Authorities Act will allow the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry to take over and decide a development permit application in place of a conservation authority, even before the conservation authority renders a decision. Conservation authorities are science-based, non-partisan agencies. Granting permitting authority to the Minister will take science out of the equation, effectively politicizing the permitting process and allowing for development that may be considered unsafe or damaging to the natural environment. 2. Proposed changes will stop conservation authorities from independently appealing land use planning decisions affecting hazards. This can put more people and infrastructure at risk. 3. The legislation opens two new avenues of appeal and sets out legislated timelines which actually results in a more complicated process expected to take longer and be more costly. 4. The act directs our board members to act only on behalf of the municipality they represent rather than acting on behalf of the watershed and its residents. This contradicts recent recommendations by Ontario’s Auditor General. Members need to think beyond municipal boundaries to collectively manage and protect watershed resources. What can you do? It’s time, now more than ever, to stand up for your local conservation authority. Click the link below to email your MPP and ask that they remove Schedule 6 from Bill 229 and instead hold meaningful public consultation on these significant changes. Click to Support Conservation Authorities: https://ontarionature.good.do/conservationauthorities/send/ Thank you for your support!

Obviously this year has been very different. (Understatement!) The charitable sector, often relying on big ticket event galas had to cancel. Fundraising is a challenge. This year, in absence of Credit Valley Conservatoin Foundation’s gala, we are hosting an online auction so we can continue to help protect, connect and sustain programs in the Credit River watershed. Please check out the the fantastic items - just in time for the holidays! Details below
