Oh look, they match the two aboyne skirts that I just made!

So the reason that I post photos is actually to feature all of the different tartans that are available. I don't take pictures of everything I make, that would be crazy. It isn't very often that I take a photo of just a jacket, or of a jig or hornpipe - as they all look the same. Tartan, on the other hand, is very visually different from one to the next - and dramatically changes the look of the exact same skirt or kilt. Many have trouble seeing how a tartan will look in e...ither a kilt or an aboyne when they are just looking at a swatch on a computer screen...it's not easy, and there are soooo many to choose from...so I try to help So here are two very different looks, and two firsts for me! On the left is the Dress Tangerine MacKellar - so pretty with a turquoise stripe through it! Tartan courtesy of Tartantown. On the right, is a piece of tartan that is many, many years old - likely the owners great grandmother's. It was found amongst the belongings of her great uncle after he passed away. Not enough in the piece to do the skirt and plaid, but enough for just the skirt - will just be worn for shows. The tartan is the MacLeod of Lewis...commonly known as the 'Loud MacLeod'. An honour to be entrusted to make something with this piece that has been in her family for a very long time

I dropped this one off for Julia on Sunday, a little bummed that I couldn't take a picture of the whole outfit. Julia is rather tall, and it just didn't work with the proportions of the dressform - the vest was far too long for it. It looks absolutely beautiful on her though, and she is very pleased that she now has a yellow aboyne (her favourite colour)... I love this tartan, it makes a gorgeous aboyne! So this just happened...a positive story about Facebook (amongst all the negativity)...I was expecting this tartan/velvet order from Highland In Style, had received a notice that it had been delivered on Sunday - only it wasn't, I looked everywhere for it. I tried not to panic, just thought I'd wait it out before contacting the post office. This afternoon, I received a message on Facebook from someone that I don't know, saying that she received a package that was mine! Wooh...oo! She took the time to find me on Facebook rather than send it back to the post office. I just went to pick it up from her, just down the street from me. There is kindness in the world still...and I'm so grateful So happy it wasn't lost in transit...this stuff isn't cheap! LOL By the way...Caitlin, one of your tartans has officially arrived, and it is gorgeous!

Special delivery tonight...it's Rowyn's 9th birthday tomorrow, so Mom wanted to surprise her with a new Aboyne! Sadly, it's missing the vest, as we have to wait until the studio re-opens in order to fit her for it - but everything else is ready for her. When ready, they have chosen the peplum style vest with buttons to go with it...she'll look gorgeous! Dress Mint Cunningham - courtesy of Tartantown... Happy 9th Birthday Rowyn!
