A little bit of the giant 48" x 48" that's on the easel at the moment. I've been working on it for a couple of weeks, and I'm probably half way through. Everything takes longer when you're only coming into the studio 3 days a week, but that's fine, I'm really enjoying these bright spring colours! #wip #workinprogress #springcolours #summoningspring #ontheeasel #inthestudio #inspiredbynature #readyforspring #warmweatheriscoming #brightcolours #warmcolours #contemporaryart #brightenyourwalls

Detail from "Abscission", 18" x 36" Abscission is an apt title for my last pre-plague painting. It's about casting off something that is no longer needed. It's also the term used for when trees cast off their spent leaves to get ready for hibernating over winter, ready for a new start in the spring. What could be more fitting? A year ago today I finished up this painting, and then we locked up the door and left. I had no idea if we were coming back. No idea if the world was e...ver going to be the same again. I didn't know if I was going to lose the people I cared about. If there would be riots and panic in the streets over a lack of food and water. It wouldn't have taken much, a little more contagious, a little more deadly, it could have been a whole lot different. I don't know if having a degree in this sort of thing was a blessing or a curse. To be informed, or blissfully unaware of what we missed. But here we are a year later. It's hard because we are so close, just another few months and we can start to get back to a normality. I can almost taste it. But what normality? I don't just want to fall back into old ways. I've had a year to think about what I want to keep and what old habits should remain old. A fresh start. What old habit have you broken with? #freshstart #oldhabits #cleanbreak #lettinggo #hibernation #abscission #reflection

Ampersand always makes me think of ambergris and Samarkand, it has always sounded exotic to me. And, I love the shape, the voluptuous curls of an older age. When I started my Bold Type collection I imagined that some of the paintings would look great as multiples. Ampersand is my first try at this, and I love the results! I seem to be going through a 70s phase with my colour choices at the moment, but I think it works really well with this bold, curving shape. #ampersand #& #boldtype #contemporaryart #wordart #abstractart #triptych #typography

Fresh off the easel! Anyone else as surprised as me that "nope" was first used in print in 1888? And there was me thinking it was modern slang. It's not used in Britain (well maybe it is now, I've been away for a while) so I hadn't come across it until I moved here. I love the finality of it, the "nope, that's my final answer" of it. It's simple and effective for when a plain "no" just doesn't cut it.... Am I going to stop using it because I ain't from around here? Nope. #nope #typography #graphicart #abstractart #wordart #typographical #handwritten #contemporaryart #freshofftheeasel #freshfromtheeasel #newwork #servingsuggestion #yourwallneedsthis
