Next up in our featured artist series - it's the lovely Winnie Carruth! Winnie was born in British Hong Kong, later moving to the U.K. to study law where she went on to become a barrister of Middle Temple in London. Winnie's work eventually took her to Toronto, Bermuda, Ottawa, and South East Asia before she found her way here to Bedford, Nova Scotia - the place she has called home since 2017.... Winnie has enjoyed all forms of art since childhood, and uses acrylics to bring her bold, bright artistic visions to life. Her works are often inspired by her extensive travels, nature and the beautiful scenery that surrounds her. Stop by our Sunnyside Mall gallery to discover Winnie's work (you might meet her while she's working on site, as well!) and feel free to message us if you have questions about any of her pieces!

This year also marks the 100-year anniversary of the Bluenose, the legendary fishing schooner Bluenose 100 - which is why we decided to feature Karl’s artwork titled: Turns on a Dime". Next up in our featured artist series: Joanne MacDonald (nee LeBlanc) was born in the small Acadian village of Abram's River, in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia. Joanne's medium of choice for painting is acrylic, and she also works with a number of other materials to create various types of artisinal items and accessories - her collection of tote bags are a hot ticket item at our gallery! Joanne’s inspiration to create comes from the beauty in the everyday here on the East Coast..., as well as from her travels abroad. After retiring from a work life of 36 years back in 2017, she rekindled her love of art and it has since become her passion. Stop by our gallery Sunnyside Mall to discover Joanne's work!

Over the next few weeks, we're going to introduce you to the artists who currently have their work featured alongside Karl’s in our galleries. A big part of what makes our gallery spaces unique is the ability to discover local artists that are based right in your own backyard. Some of them work at the gallery, as well, so you have an opportunity to chat with them face-to-face about their work. First up, we want to introduce you to the lovely Wileen Hanshaw! Her medium of choi...ce is watercolour, with some pieces incorporating elements of pen and ink that help her vibrant colours pop right off the canvas! Wileen turns to art for the sense of calm and inner peace it brings; her passion comes in part from the process of starting a painting and seeing it through to completion. Stop by our Sunnyside Mall gallery to discover Wileen's collection and feel free to leave a comment below/message us (or Wileen directly) if you have questions about her work. Stay tuned for more artist profiles in the coming weeks!

Is your heart torn between two (or more) places? For anyone who has left home at some point in search of a new start, new adventures; we often become attached to our 'homes' away from home. While Karl currently calls Halifax home, he moved from his birthplace of Newfoundland to Toronto at a fairly young age - and fell in love with the city. To this day, his misses his old neighbourhood, his friends and the memories they shared. Is there a city/place that you left home to move... to that left a lasting impression on you? It has been a while since I last introduced myself here, so I wanted to take a moment to say hello! I'm Karl, Owner and Founder of Karl Penton Gallery. Some of you already know me or perhaps we have crossed paths at some point over the years, but to any new folks and followers out there - thank you for showing interest in my work! I gravitate to vibrant, vivid colours, and I aim to create works that are deeply rooted in a sense of ‘place’; that are reflective of the places,... people, and communities all around me. When you choose to proudly hang a piece of my work in a space of your own, I hope it evokes feelings of joy and adds colour to your day-to-day! Stop in anytime to visit us at the gallery or browse the collection virtually at karlpentongallery.com. : William Dicks - williamdicksphoto.com
