Happy Wildlife Wednesday. "Look at my pretty orange teeth!" This beaver at our farm in the Thickwood Hills shows off its gnawing incisors. Beavers' teeth contain large amounts of iron that helps protect them from tooth decay; their teeth never stop growing.

Earth day activities 2021 feature the theme of #RestoreOurEarth. You can take part by turning off the lights in your home for an extra hour, picking up garbage in your neighbourhood, composting kitchen waste, planting a tree, or taking your recycling to a depot. How will you make a difference?

What a beautiful morning for a dance! Male sharp-tailed grouse strutting his stuff on the lek or dancing ground, in hopes of winning over a willing female. A lovely spot for a lunch break on the south shore of Lake Athabasca in the Athabasca Sand Dunes. The lake was in one of its calm moods this day, thankfully. Read more about canoeing on the south shore in our Photojourneys posting here: http://ow.ly/Eyss50EswTl #lakeathabasca #athabascasanddunes #saskparks #ExploreSask #Sasknice

A yellow-bellied sapsucker looking dapper this spring, in hopes of attracting a mate. This species is fairly common in aspen forests. Its name comes from its style of feeding - drilling small holes in the bark of a tree, then returning to enjoy the sap that fills the wound. #thickwoodhills #Saskatchewan #Sasknice #exploresask

This is the time of year when birds like this Bohemian Waxwing in our backyard are particularly busy establishing territories, gathering nesting material, and looking for the perfect mate. It's also prime time for them to collide with windows. Here's some tips from Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation to make your windows safer for birds: http://ow.ly/lTOG50Egpx4

My grandmother Tillie Novak made this miniature paska or Easter bread years ago, lovingly decorated with braids and twists and accompanied by little chicks. May your Easter be special as we all look forward to renewed life.

The Giant's Playground is a fascinating area of dolerite boulders in south-eastern #Namibia that have weathered through eons into bizarre shapes. They are a natural formation, although it looks like a giant has been playing around with over-sized lego blocks.

Sometimes the curves of a beach can be captivating in a photo - water, sand, and sky all come together creating delightful lines. Top photo: Cabot's Landing Provincial Park on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Bottom photo: Lake Athabasca south shore, Saskatchewan.

The ancient city of #Coba, #Mexico, between #Tulum and #Valladolid in the state of #Yucatan. This impressive restored pyramid is a whopping 42 metres tall, the tallest in the Riviera Maya zone. The site is enormous, covering over 27 square miles, and predates Chichen-Itza. Have you visited Coba?

Ahhh, summer memories -- a very calm and peaceful #LakeAthabasca in northern #Saskatchewan in the #AthabascaSandDunes. It isn't always this serene, so we're happy we had the chance to enjoy the lake in one of her gentler moods . Read more here: http://ow.ly/Vofk50CjkeL
