Following the Powder Tower failure incident, that left about 50 subscribers without Internet between Monday and Wednesday, KiN wishes to thank Craig Barschel and Sean McConnel for driving us in their vehicle as far up the forest service road as we could get, then took us up the road the rest of the way on their two snowmobiles to where we could snowshoe up to Powder Tower and make the repairs. There were a lot of trees brought down by Monday's snow which Craig chainsawed so we could get up to the snowshoe trail that leads to the tower. We returned to Kaslo about 6:30PMa long day! Also a warm thank you to Bruce Freeman for donating two pairs of snowshoes to KiN! What a community!

Two pairs of aluminum tubing snowshoes were taken from the open bed of a truck between 9AM and 6:30PM on Wednesday December 23. One pair, probably 30" (for a large person) was in its original black cloth storage bag; the other was loose. The pickup truck was parked near the east end of the Water Street diagonal parking area. The snowshoes were taken from a supporter of Kaslo infoNet to be used to climb to the remote relay tower on Kaslo Mountain to replace equipment that had... been serving at least 50 KiN subscribers. We were in a hurry to perform the repair because those people had gone without Internet service for about two days and it was urgent to restore service before Christmas. KiN needs to have the snowshoes returned because we need them for winter servicing of our wireless relay towers. Please, we would very much appreciate having them returned, no questions asked. Or maybe if you know of their whereabouts, please call the office. UPDATE - The snowshoes have been located!! All is well in the world!

On behalf of the Board and Staff of Kaslo infoNet Society we have a small gift for our community that we hope may help you and your family to meet without travel and without Covid risks. We have a new meeting server on line and accessible to all in the community. It is located at: https://jitsi.kaslovia.com/... This instance has been in testing for the last several weeks, and will be replaced by a final system as a service in January. This YouTube video below will give you a run through on how to use the Jitsi software on our local server, it’s free to use and this version will be available until then. What you will need is a computer Mac or PC with a compatible Browser: Current version Google Chrome Current version Microsoft Edge Current version FireFox And a webcam with mic or equivalent hardware. If you have used Zoom before this should be familiar although the controls are a little different. Two-way video and audio links do require some bandwidth so you may find that Fibre 10 or 25 or may be required for best performance. Several of us have had a chance to use this to connect with relatives already, and other than the time differences connections worldwide seem to work without issue. Please let us know how this has worked for you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year From the KiN Folks https://youtu.be/3Iwiwq7eofE
