A different type of adventure! But not to be missed!!

Secret is OUT! Kaslo is "the" place when you want a piece of paradise!

IDAHO PEAK UPDATE You can now drive to the top parking lot :) there are a few patches of snow. Last year it was July 9th; this year June 25th/26th.... Things to know if you haven't been up to Idaho Peak: #1 Road is for high clearance and mechanically sound vehicles. We do not advise low clearance and vehicles that struggle mechanically - if you do get stuck or break down and you are near the peak there is cell service at the top. #2 Ensure you have fuel - it is 12 kms UP UP & UP from Sandon. #3 Bring water and dress in layers as it can get very cold very fast and a weather system can come when you least expect it. #4 Take photos and leave footprints. Please do not pick the wildflowers - photos last longer :) #5 When coming back down please do not "ride" your brakes. Coast in 1st gear on the steep sections & 2nd on the flat sections. Automatic vehicles have a 1st & 2nd gear; please use those gears you will be grateful for not burning your brakes. #6 Common courtesy - vehicles coming down from the peak have right away. Uphill traffic back down to the next wide spot (where safe) and let the other vehicle(s) pass. #7 Mid day is the busiest for traffic - just sayin :) Please use common sense and be safe.

For those of you who have never seen or paddled a 26' Voyageur canoe and would like an opportunity to try it, On July 8th, 9th and 10th the Red Rogues, will ...be camping in Kaslo as part of a short paddle on Slocan Lake, On the 9th of July at aprox. 2pm, weather permitting, they will offer a "people in boats" session to give local residents an opportunity to paddle with them. They will be starting from Kaslo Bay beach. Please bring your own life jacket and paddle. They will have some of these, but not all sizes. Paddlers must be 12 years of age or older The Red Rogues will paddle Kootenay lake from Lardeau to Creston starting on the 9th. If anyone has their own canoe or kayak and wish to join them for part of their paddle, please feel free to participate.... Val Koenig photo: Camp Amnicon
