Can anyone relate to this?

Kass the Mindful Doula 13.04.2021

*Real talk and it’s a long one... I wanted to finally share a little about my pregnancy and birth journey. To begin...It was a pretty wild ride being pregnant for the first time during a global pandemic. Then to add to it all I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes that had to be controlled with insulin. Jude was also breech in the birth canal. Due to these factors a home birth with my Midwife and Doula was out of the question. This was the first lesson of letting go of co...ntrol in my pregnancy. Jude then decided to get cozy in his breech position and was gaining weight like a champ so, a scheduled c section was the end plan. This was the furthest thing from what I had hoped or planned for my birth. Throughout my pregnancy I had mentioned to my husband that I had a feeling our little boy would be born with Down Syndrome. We opted to not have any genetic testing done, we said whatever will be will be. The Belly Birth (C section) went as planned with no complications. When I heard baby Jude cry for the first time, I looked at my husband and said; Does he look like he has Down Syndrome? Both my husband and midwife looked at me confused. The midwife then said Why did you just say that? I replied with, I had a feeling my whole pregnancy. Sure enough my mother’s intuition was right and Jude was born with Down Syndrome. He spent the first 3 weeks of his life, earth side, in the NICU in Toronto and Orillia. Jude is now home and settled and is the sweetest little guy. We love him so very much. It was an incredible journey and I’m sure there will be times that will be difficult (like any child’s life) but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I wanted to share this because it is such a true testament that ANYTHING can happen during your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I still believe in home births, birth plans and advocating for what you want AND I believe that riding the wave and going with the flow is so beneficial. If you ever have any questions about anything pregnancy, birth or postpartum...I am still a Doula!! Thanks for listening! #doulalove #birthstory #downsyndromebirthstory #theluckyfew #nothingdownaboutit

Our little prince was born with Down Syndrome. It has been a wild ride so far but I wouldn’t ask for it any other way. October is #downsyndromeawarenessmonth and I encourage every person to become more aware. Talk. Ask questions. Listen. I feel so grateful that Jude chose us to be his parents. As a mother and a Doula, I can only imagine what this experience will teach me. It’s already shown me so much. . .... . . #downsyndrome #theluckyfew #downsyndromeawarenessmonth #birthdoula #postpartumdoula #bluemountaindoula #thornburydoula #doulalove doulasupport See more

As a new mom...I definitely feel this. Anyone else?

Well, it’s been awhile...and for good reason. Our sweet baby boy was born at the end of July. I am now 6 weeks postpartum. This journey has already given me such incredible insight and experience to help nourish my future Doula career. I’m so grateful for this. As you can imagine, I’ll be taking the year to bond with Jude and amerce myself in motherhood. I can’t wait to share my journey over the next bit of time with you all; the highs and lows. #realtalk ... . . . . . #doulalove #postpartum #motherhood #thornburydoula #bluemountaindoula #birthdoula #postpartumdoula See more

Why why why do people think it’s ok to comment of the size of a pregnant person? Habit? Lack of education? Being naive? Not seeing a problem with it? Whatever the reason, it needs to stop. The amount of people who have had experiences with this is wild!! Comments like; are you having twins, wow you’re huge, are you sure you’re pregnant you’re so small though and the list goes on and on. Most likely the comments are coming from a good place but you never know what that pregn...ant person is going though. Keep the comments on size to yourself please! Things that are welcome are; you’re beautiful, you’re glowing or you’re full of life etc. And if you’re pregnant and don’t appreciate the comments on your size, don’t hesitate to say something in return! Education is key. * * * * * #everybodyisbeautiful #pregnancylove #doulasupport See more
