Lake O’Hara Red Canoe Lake O’Hara is located West of Lake Louise, on the boundary of Yoho, and Banff National Parks. Due to its limited and exclusive access, you must book your visit in advance, and the region is notorious for being extremely difficult to book in to. It is also unique in the fact that you park at the main parking lot, and then get shuttled in a school bus, up the 11 km access road to the lake itself, which is where all of the great hiking begins. You can also... walk the 11kms, however, being able to use the shuttle, places you in the ideal position to better explore this mind blowing area. This photograph was captured while co-leading a photography tour in the area. The night prior to this, it had snowed, making for this absolutely magical landscape. The overcast cloud allowed for nice, soft light, which also naturally enhances the colour. The perfect calm granted this magnificent reflection upon the lake, further saturating the mountain, with the naturally vibrant water. The timing for this photograph requires an extremely short window in time, as the first snowfall blankets the scene, with the open water still unaffected with ice, allowing for this mirrored reflection. The fact that the lodge left the canoes out, was sheer luck, adding a classic Canadian touch and saturated and contrasting pop of red in the image. This image as shown is a total completed wall size of 48.5 x 68.5 inches (123 x 174cm) 4 x 5.7 feet This completed piece, as shown in the photo, is framed using a linen liner, and contemporary Ramino Italian custom frame. Gallery wrapped canvas, prints, and framed prints are also available. Each piece is printed on 3rd party archival verified premium canvas, framed, and finished directly by me in my studio, and includes a certificate of authenticity along with a matching numbered hologram seal on both the certificate and artwork. Sunshine Meadows is a special place to immerse yourself in the landscape during the summer months, for bright, colourful vistas. Wide open space to wander, the smells of the sub alpine flora, and carpets of wild flowers entice your senses, luring you to explore. Prior to the summer gondola being operational, a bus would shuttle visitors up the access road, to the upper village, where the hiking trails start from. This large, immersive photograph on canvas was created after th...e visitors were gone for the day. As the last bus was quite early in relation to sunset and golden hours, I rode my mountain bike up the access road, in order to be able to stay for sunset, and still have a quick trip back to the car at night, by headlamp. While hiking, I found the perfect vantage point, near the Mt. Standish lookout, and set up my camera and tripod to wait for the sun to sink low into the horizon, creating this soft, golden light across the landscape. With vibrant fireweed in the foreground, I framed the shot between the trees to create a window, and depth, inviting the viewers eyes to tour the scene, from Rock Isle Lake, to Quartz Ridge, and you can see Mt. Assiniboine peeking through the clouds.
