It is hard to express, in this moment of loss, just how much Barry Lopez meant to me as a writer. Because language collapses experience into meaning, and if you do it too soon, you’ve lost all the other meaning that would’ve been there, as he cautioned, I will just say he helped me remember, whenever I was lost and doubting, what I wanted my life to mean. "We have little to guide us but love, and our ability to remember, he wrote We need stories that help. We need stories that revive in our psyches a sense of wonder, a sense not so much of what specifically is possible but a sense, simply, of possibility." Godspeed, Barry Lopez, and thank you for making so much seem possible with your exquisite, emboldening words and spirit.

I can say this much for our cabin: when there’s light in the winter, we get it.

Put your hands/paws in the air for the holidayssssss!!!!! Hope you all get some deserved time off and time outside to wrap up this crazy year. So grateful for this stunning backyard, for friends and family near and all-too-far, and especially for these two.
