Budget 2021 makes a transformative investment to build a Canada-wide early learning and child care system. This is a plan to drive economic growth, a plan to increase women’s participation in the workforce, and a plan to offer each child in Canada the best start in life. This plan will aim to reduce fees for parents with children in regulated child care by 50 per cent on average, by 2022, with a goal of reaching $10 per day on average by 2026, everywhere outside of Quebec.

Proud to rise in the House today to recognize London swimmer Maggie MacNeil, current world champion in the 100m Butterfly. I wanted to take the opportunity to wish her well, along with the other incredible, hardworking athletes on Team Canada.

This budget is about finishing the fight against COVID-19. It’s about healing the wounds left by the COVID-19 recession. And it’s about creating more jobs and prosperity for Canadians in the daysand decadesto come. The COVID-19 recession is the steepest and fastest economic contraction since the Great Depression. It has disproportionately affected low-wage workers, young people, women, and racialized Canadians. For businesses, it has been a two-speed recession, with some fi...nding ways to prosper and grow, but many businessesespecially small businessesfighting to survive. Budget 2021 is an historic investment to address the specific wounds of the COVID-19 recession, put people first, create jobs, grow the middle class, set businesses on a track for long-term growth, and ensure that Canada’s future will be healthier, more equitable, greener, and more prosperous. I’m very pleased that the Federal Budget 2021 includes a 30 million dollar investment in Paediatric Cancer Research. Kim Hunter, you and your daughter Olivia have been fighting for this for so long, along with countless others, I’m pleased it’s become a reality!

Physicians and Health professionals across Canada, are going above and beyond to keep Canadians safe. Doctors like Dr. Elia, have been personally reaching out to vulnerable patients who become eligible for the vaccine and I know Londoners are grateful for such excellent medical professionals who work in our city.

National Child Care: How can we afford not to? Today, our focus is on safe and affordable child care. Our plan in Budget 2021 aims to reduce fees for parents with children in child care by 50 percent on average, by 2022, with a goal of reaching $10 per day by 2026. This investment will allow for more women to enter the workforce and help grow Canada's economy while also working to make life more affordable for families. This is a smart economic plan that will create jobs, grow the middle class, and offer each child in Canada the best start in life.

The Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) provides $500 ($450 after taxes withheld) per week for up to a maximum of four weeks, for workers who are unable to work for at least 50% of the week because they contracted COVID-19; are self-isolated for reasons related to COVID-19; have underlying conditions, are undergoing treatments or have contracted other sicknesses that, in the opinion of a medical practitioner, nurse practitioner, person in authority, government or public health authority, would make them more susceptible to COVID-19. Please stay home if you're sick.

Budget 2021's investment in early learning and childcare systems is good for women, good for families, and good for Canada!

Ramadan marks a sacred time of year for the Muslim community here in London and around the world. This month-long journey of fasting and prayer encourages spiritual growth, reflection and compassion for those less fortunate. During this pandemic, Muslim Canadians have stepped up to give charitably to their neighbours and those most in need. Thank you especially to those who work on the frontlines of combatting COVID-19 as essential workers and medical professionals, all while fasting. Ramadan Mubarak!

Earlier today I got my first COVID vaccination at the North London Optimist Centre. Didn’t even need a bandaid! A big thank you to the healthcare and essential workers, still working hard to keep us safe. We each must do all we can to prevent the spread of COVID and protect our communities. You can check if you are eligible and how you can book your appointment at https://www.healthunit.com/covid-19-vaccine-eligibility Over 10 million doses of vaccines have been delivered and over 8 million administered. As these numbers continue to increase and eligibility expands, I hope that everyone will decide to get the vaccine. Vaccines are critical in beating COVID-19.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the passing of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh: It was with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of The Duke of Edinburgh. A man of great service to others first as a decorated naval officer and later as a dedicated leader in the areas of community engagement and philanthropy the Duke always sought out the best in people and challenged them to strive for greater heights.... Prince Philip maintained a special relationship with the Canadian Armed Forces and over the years became ColonelinChief of six Canadian units. In 2011, he was named honorary general of the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force, as well as honorary admiral of the Royal Canadian Navy. The global program that bears his title the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has helped empower millions of young people from all backgrounds to realize their greatest potential, and is but one example of his contributions to the social fabric of this country and the world. He was also the patron of more than forty organizations in Canada, including the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute and the Outward Bound Trust. During his last visit to Canada in April 2013, the Duke was named the first-ever Extraordinary Companion of the Order of Canada by the Governor General of Canada. Prince Philip was a man of great purpose and conviction, who was motivated by a sense of duty to others. He will be fondly remembered as a constant in the life of our Queen a lifelong companion who was always at her side offering unfailing support as she carried out her duties. A family has lost a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. The thoughts of Canadians are with Queen Elizabeth II and the members of the Royal Family as they mourn such a significant loss.

This $5.9 million investment in Let's Talk Science is going to provide many opportunities for our youth across Canada to learn more about science and the S.T.E.M. fields. By introducing youth to climate science through community events and new online resources, Let's Talk Science will continue to be invaluable in developing our scientists of the future.

I was happy to join the Town of Grand Valley this morning on behalf of Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Catherine McKenna, to announce $11.3 million dollars of funding for 30 different infrastructure projects across Southern Ontario. Many of these projects such as the Washago Community Centre Outdoor Rink will help bring improvements to the local community for all to enjoy.

https://nationalpost.com//pias-roosevelt-hotel-in-new-york London born big bandleader, Guy Lombardo, started the tradition of his New Years Eve radiobroadcast from the Roosevelt Hotel in 1929! A London connection to a New Years tradition and a New York landmark. The closing of the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel (named after U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, President from 1901-1909) is a sign of how hard the travel and hospitality industry around the globe has been hit... by the effects of this pandemic. It will come back. On this side of the border we're going to continue to help workers and businesses affected by the pandemic, through programs such as extending the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, Expanding E.I, and the revamped Commercial Rent Relief which will go directly the business owners. As mentioned in the Throne Speech, we are also working on targeted supports for the hardest hit industries this side of the border, like culture, tourism, and travel.

I was proud to speak today in support of Bill C-6, which will amend the Criminal Code to take important steps in banning Conversion Therapy. These amendments will ban Conversion Therapy for those under the age of 18, and also ban the advertising for and selling of Conversion Therapy services. It is an important step in creating a more accepting and equitable Canada. I've been pleased at the respectful debate on the issue so far, and was proud to add my voice as the MP for Lo...ndon West, to the Parliamentarians from across party lines who support ending this terrible pseudo-scientific practice, which contrary to its name, is not at all therapeutic but is in fact abusive. All people deserve, at the very least, to be treated with love, respect, and compassion for who they are. This bill is an important step towards that. Cc: Pride London Festival

The London-Middlesex Health Unit has introduced new measures for public spaces as the weather turns colder. If we follow these strict indoor protocols alongside the advice of public health officials such as wearing masks, social distancing, keeping our bubbles small, hopefully our communities can avoid reverting to an earlier stage of reopening. Pleased to see so many businesses have already adopted strict measures. Keeping our communities safe is important to all of us, and we all need to do our part.

Getting your flu shot has never been more important! This year, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, more Canadians than ever will be getting their flu shots. With many public health clinics and physician offices focusing on COVID-19 this coming season, many more Canadians will be visiting their local pharmacies to get their flu shot. As flu vaccines become available in early to mid-October across the country, I hope that you will join me in promoting the importance of getting a flu shot. #GetTheFluShot

This morning, I gave a reply to the Speech from the Throne (virtually) in the House of Commons. I'm proud to support this Throne Speech and to work with my colleagues as we continue to navigate Canada forward. On this first day of Women's History Month, I wanted to remind my colleagues what the first woman elected to the Federal Parliament, Agnes Macphail, said about the role of parliamentarians. She considered us delegates of the people and as she said almost a century ago, ..." The first thing to be considered by the delegates of the people is, 'What do the people want." In my ten minute speech I outlined the parts of the Throne Speech which resonate most strongly with what I've heard from my constituents in London West. I look forward to working with my colleagues of all political parties to build a better Canada for all Canadians as we move forward; that is what Canadians are asking for and that is what we will deliver.
