11 years ago I was backpacking around Australia with this beautiful bride. We both had our 1 year working visas and planned to explore as much of the stunning country as we could in that time. But, little did we know, that Genevieve would end up meeting the love of her life just a few months before we took off overseas. We managed to spend 3 incredible months exploring together before the long distance phone calls were no longer enough, she had to get back to Canada and give ...this guy Jason a real chance - and thank goodness she did! This past summer, Gen & Jason eloped on our Canadian Sunshine Coast along with 2 of their best friends, and Aspect Film Works and I capturing the magic. To see a relationship start from the very early stages and watch it blossom into a long lasting, sincere and passionate true love story is such a profound experience. Gen, thank you for showing me how following your heart can lead to remarkable outcomes Disclaimer - I wasn’t ready to leave Australia after 3 months so I stayed and backpacked around the rest of the country myself. I didn’t make it the full 12 months, but I managed to sneak in another visit with Alex O'Daly and I’m almost certain that aided in us being together today. This is Harper, or as her dad affectionately calls her, Rosie. She is 4 years old and full of life. If there's music playing, she's probably dancing. If she's requesting the song, it's something by Michael Jackson. She's always up for trying something new and is never far behind her big brother Liam. She has an incredible imagination already and even has an imaginary friend named Toko who we first 'met' a couple of years ago now. She has these amazing green eyes, the sweetest... ringlets in her hair and gets the rosiest cheeks (hence her nickname). She is a loving little girl who is always greeting her friends and family with a hug. She is strong and sure of herself. She has Cystic Fibrosis, but it does not define her. She is a fighter and amazes her family daily. Meet Eddie, owner of Lapper Entertainment & Security. Not only does Eddie provide excellent security services all throughout the year for our community, he’s always finding ways to fundraise and give back to those in need. One story that really stood out to us was hearing that Eddie, along with the help of his generous friends and supporters, gathered together webcams for our Kamloops Hospice Association. During the COVID-19 pandemic, so many services like the Hospice, have h...ad to restrict family and friends visiting their loved ones. Our local Hospice did a call out to the community for webcams and Eddie immediately stepped into action. Thanks to this amazing initiative, the guests staying at the Hospice now have access to virtual visits with their family and friends, which is so, so important during their final days. It doesn’t end there, when Eddie heard that the BC Girl Guides were worried about selling this seasons stock due to the pandemic, he purchased 10 cases and has donated them to places like The Mustard Seed and those in our marginalized community. You might also recognize Eddie from Ed the Security Guy’s Charity Christmas Tree Pick-up, an annual fundraiser he started to raise money for our hospice. The list goes on! Meet Heather McIntyre, a pharmacy technician at Royal Inland Hospital The feeling at the hospital is perhaps stress of the unknown and fear of what’s potentially to come. Emotions are high. Although people might be lonely and scared in self isolation, we have to remember that we are all in this together.... Right now, our healthcare workers are on the frontlines battling the novel coronavirus disease that’s spreading throughout our city, province, nation and the entire world. These courageous souls cannot self-isolate with their loved ones or stay 6 ft away from sick patients. They are putting themselves in the path of this virus, in Kamloops and around the world. The stakes are high and the challenges innumerable - too little information, dwindling personal protective equipment, changing protocols and no second chances. Yet, our doctors, nurses, technicians, transporters, EMTs, pharmacists, housekeepers and everyone who supports patient care are rising to the occasion and caring for our community before themselves. THANK YOU for the sacrifices you make, every day and especially during this pandemic. Your dedication, commitment and bravery deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a particular story that stood out to me. Local realtor Kyle Panasuk - Royal Lepage Westwin bought and delivered lunch for the staff at Royal Inland... Hospital. When buying for the masses, one could easily have chosen to save money and buy pizzas from a chain restaurant using coupons, but Kyle chose to support a local small business, specializing in gourmet pizzas. When Bold Pizzeria saw that the order was for the hard-working staff at RIH, they decided to double the order for FREE! For me, this story not only showcased the generosity of two different businesses in our community, but it illustrated the positive ripple effect of supporting local. #supportlocal This is just one of the many generous food donations made by BOLD Pizzeria Kamloops throughout the pandemic. I have been lucky to work with the The Kamloops Chamber of Commerce on some really neat projects this past year. Here are some photos from last nights event Kamloops Tomorrow It was an evening filled with great discussion about where people see Kamloops in 2050 and what steps might need to be taken to continue bettering our community. A point that stood out to me....... There are 3 types of people who live in Kamloops. 1. You were born here, so you’ve stayed or you’ve come back. 2. You moved here due to work 3. You moved here because your partner found work. The end goal is to add in number 4... 4. You moved to Kamloops because you WANTED to. Experts pointed out that Kamloops is very much a blue collar, industry based town. Similar to the popular, trendy city of Portland. I don’t know about you, but the thought of Kamloops having the potential to grow into a unique city with a feel like Portland truly excites me! Do you have opinions or ideas?
