I love walking through the forest or along the cottage roads so it is not surprising that landscapes are often featured in my art quilts. On my website (www.kathleenrodgersartisan.ca), under Quilts, there is a section dedicated to Landscaped. Here are a few that are currently available for sale. Sizes and prices are on my website. Please check out the other local artists who are participating in the virtual Studio Tour King 2021 on the Arts Society King website (www.artssocietyking.ca). If you are interested in purchasing anything from my website or the ASK website, you can email me or direct message me.

After I completed The Rainbow, I had lots of squares of my hand dyed fabric. I experimented with different designs until I ended up with a floral that appears pixelated. When I machine quilted it, I chose to round the edges of the petals and leaves. I added bead around the centre and at the tips of the pistils. I have not found a poem for this one.

I completed another piece for the Poetry in Stitches exhibit. The centre is a panel that fits with the poem. On the left and along the top are the traditional block entitled flying geese as they fly across the sky. Along the right and along the bottom are machine stitched leaves as they fall to the earth. Here is the poem entitled: The Bend in the Road By Helen Steiner Rice Sometimes We come to life’s cross roads And view what we think is the end. But God has a much wider ...vision And He knows it is only a bend The road will go on and get smoother And after we’ve stopped for a rest, The path that lies hidden beyond us Is often the path that is best. So rest and relax and grow stronger Let go and let God share your load And have faith in a brighter tomorrow. You’ve just come to a bend in the road. I hope you enjoy it! See more

I loved hearing birds sing while cross country skiing. My favourite winter bird is the chickadee as his song is easily recognizable. When I found a poem about a bird singing, I knew I would create an art quilt with a chickadee. The design is stitched on a piece of my hand dyed fabric. The berries and branches are painted. The chickadee was appliqued from a fabric with large birds then it was enhanced with thread sketching. Here is the poem: I heard a Bird Sing by Oliver He...rford I heard a bird sing In the dark of December A magical thing And sweet to remember. "We are nearer to Spring Than we were in September," I heard a bird sing In the dark of December. I hope you enjoy this piece and will attend the exhibit, Poetry in Stitches in 2022.

The background for this art quilt was sewn from 1.5" squares of my hand dyed fabrics which were left over from previous projects. I was not sure what my next step would be. A good friend suggested adding a tree. First, I machine quilted the "rainbow" background as a landscape with grass in the foreground, a river (in the blue area), hills (in the green area) then the sky at dawn or twilight. The tree was created with a combination of thread and paint. More grass in black wa...s added around the tree to anchor it to the ground. Here is the poem that inspired this art quilt which measures 14" square: The Rainbow (author anonymous) After the rain, your colours appear Violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red, Signalling new life and beauty for all around us. We gaze with wonder at your splendor. See more

This art quilt was created by stitching the outlines of the leaves and grapes then painted on hand dyed fabric. In the background, there are grapevines and small bunches of grapes. Here is the poem that inspired it: Taste of Purple by Leland B. Jacobs Grapes hang purple In their bunches, Ready for September lunches.... Gather them, no Minutes wasting. Purple is Delicious tasting. See more

I started making cards after people would purchase items for gifts during various sales events then go to other vendors looking for cards. I enjoy creating the cards as it takes me back to my childhood when my grandma would buy coloring books for me when I visited. I sell my cards for $5 for one card or five cards for $20. I decided I would start featuring some thematic cards. Today I have 12 Girl Birthday and 8 Ladies Birthday cards available. Let me know if you are interested in purchasing any of today's items via Facebook or email. Please indicate the theme (ex. Girls' Birthday) and the letter of the card you want. If you are looking for other themes, message me what you are looking for.

Here is another art quilt I created for next year's exhibit based on a hummingbird poem. It is painted on hand dyed fabric which gives the illusion of an out of focus background, ground, sky, water, sunlight on water or clouds in the sky. It measures 14" sq. Here is the poem: The Hummingbird by Michael Flanders The Hummingbird, he has no song From flower to flower he hums along... Humming his way among the trees He finds no words for what he sees. I am part of a group of art quilters who is preparing an exhibition of artwork inspired by poetry. I created two wall hangings for consideration about birch trees, one with cardinals and one with chickadees. Let me know which one is your preference. Here is the poem: Birch Trees by John Richard Moreland The night is white, The moon is high, The birch trees lean... Against the sky. The cruel winds Have blown away Each little leaf Of silver gray. O lonely trees As white as wool ... That moonlight makes So beautiful. See more

The theme for this year's International Women's Day exhibit at OMAH is "Life line". The theme is poignant due to the current pandemic as we are all searching for "life lines". My artwork is entitled "The Story of My Life". Here is the story that will accompany it: "Family, friends, pets become interwoven in our personal stories and life experiences. They are a reflection of who we are, what we represent and from where we come. When faced with obstacles on our journey throu...gh life, they provide the life line that brings us comfort, clarity and reminds of our own worth. Finding the stillness within while walking through a forest grounds and connects us to a spiritual life line, Mother Earth." It was fun to search for photos (and relive the memories associated with them) then send them to print on fabric. With the lock down closing fabric stores, I had to resort to an asset (my son) to create the black and white striped fabric. Fortunately he is a whiz at Photoshop and made the stripes in less than five minutes. See more
