Mums & nails! Ready for fall!

Melanoma is Not finicky! It even picks on superstars! Bob Marley, the reggae superstar died at 36 from melanoma of the TOENAIL!... Melanoma effects all exposed skin including skin under the nail. The medical term is SUBUNGUAL melanoma. It is very aggressive and spreads rapidly. The pictures show various presentations of subungual melanomas. Other discoloration such as red streaks in the nail beds maybe indications of squamous or basal cell carcinoma. Non- healing verruca my also be a sign of cancer. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends the following to protect against over exposure to the sun: Moisturize nail area daily. Wear gloves in cold windy weather. Never cut or push back cuticles. When using nail polish, periodically take a break of 1-3 months. When getting a manicure, make sure all implements are sterilized or are disposable single use. Use nail polish that contains UV filters. If in any doubt, seek medical attention. Early detection is KEY! P.S. Asking the Industry Chemical Nail Expert what UV filters a polish should contain. Hope to have an answer later this week!

Flip flop season has arrived but long term wear these comfey, humble sandals can have unfortunate foot and toe issues. According to podiatrists, flip flops are ...not even meant for walking! The strapless design requires the toes to grip extra hard and alter normal heel to toe motion causing extra strain so the foot can't focus on it's job of walking. That extra work can lead to painful problems such as hammer toe, bunions, plantar fasciitis, shortening of the achilles tendon, toe deformities, problems of the kness, hips, and back.
