Kathy Vassilakos for Council 01.10.2020

Thank you to everyone for the support during this election. It has been an honour to serve on Stratford City Council. Win or lose tomorrow night I am grateful for the last 4 years and the opportunity to have worked with talented and dedicated individuals and organizations (council, city staff, community groups, citizens and more).

In response to my transportation note I have received several questions with respect to road reconstruction and road widths - especially in older neighbourhoods. I have not seen the pamphlet or the email that is circulating so I cannot comment specifically but I can say that it is not accurate to say that all roads are being widened to 8.5M. The policy sets out minimum road widths based on type of road, on street parking and volume of traffic. Engineering also takes into acc...ount the feasibility of the widening depending on existing conditions like proximity to housing, trees and needs to upgrade sidewalks to AODA standards. It also considers small road widening for improved cycling facilities where possible. These considerations are usually included in the staff report and recommendations when a road is being reconstructed. Note that reconstruction is not when simply repaving the road. I have asked the Clerk to share the policy with all the candidates so everyone has the same information. I cannot attach a pdf so here is a screen shot of the policy. I would appreciate sharing of this information to address concerns that I am hearing from residents.

Starting tomorrow I will be posting notes with my thoughts on several broad areas of responsibility for municipal councils with a focus on Stratford. I will cover a bit about what was done over the last 4 years and where I feel we should be heading. Some of the notes will be long and perhaps too much detail but I will try to have headings so you can skip to issues that interest you most. I welcome any input on items you may want covered in the notes and do not hesitate to as...k questions, or ask for reports and additional background after publication of each note. In order of publication: Transportation Housing Environment Economic Development Quality of Life Infrastructure Grand Trunk Legacy Project

There are people asking general questions about the election: how to vote, when the debates are being held, how to find information about the candidates, etc. The Clerk’s Office at the City of Stratford has all the official information you need including contact information if you have any questions. https://www.stratfordcanada.ca//ins/municipalelection.asp... The library has additional resources on their municipal election page. Here you will find debate information as well as links to the candidates’ web and social media pages. https://www.splibrary.ca/election2018
