This may not seem very exciting and you may be wondering what that means to you... If your mortgage is a variable rate mortgage it means that your rate remains the same, which is very low at the moment. Prime rate is negotiated 8 times a year by the Bank of Canada and that determines the way your variable rate is affected. (Variable rate= Prime rate - 0.9% for example) Today The Bank of Canada hold prime rate at 2.45% for someone who has a mortgage at Prime -0.9% that is ...1.55% After all the talk about rising mortgage rates I know some of my variable rate clients were wondering what might happen to the Prime rate... Fixed rates however fluctuate with Bond rates... That is a whole other subject.

It is true, a lot people cannot afford to buy a house due to their high vehicle loan payment. But there are options: If you have plans to buy a home in the near future hold off on buying a new vehicle for now. Buy what you can afford. A vehicle payment at $700/month or more could almost be your mortgage payment.... Sometimes you just need to buy a new vehicle NOW, because your old one broke... I understand that.
