We've gotten a number of new followers lately, so I thought I would re-introduce myself. My name is Katie, and I have been walking dogs full time for about 3.5 years. Prior to this, I was a manager at a local pet store for a couple of years until the corporate mentality got in the way of my enjoyment of the job. Animals have always been a big part of my life; we had cats, a dog, and guinea pigs in the house when I was young and I grew up partly on my grandparents hobby farm i...n rural Ontario, surrounded by goats, chickens, geese, cows, and sheep. Rex June 10, 2004 - October 9, 2020. Yesterday Rex passed over the rainbow bridge. I said my goodbyes on Wednesday and laid next to him for a bit, telling him how much he was loved and that soon he would have no more pain. I met this little man back in January and I've seen him nearly every week since then. During the lockdown and quiet summer, he spent 2 days a week at my house, and accompanied me in his sling on a few walks with the big dogs. He spent a week napping next to... my bed, and countless hours napping in the warm sun outside. He was a force to be reckoned with when he wanted treats or grass time. Rest in eternal peace, little man.

This months Featured Pet is Bubbles, my childhood dog. This month marks 10 years since her passing. Bubbles came to us in 1994 from Nova Scotia (I grew up in Ontario) via our neighbours, who had just gotten a puppy from the same family. The name Bubbles came from a children's book series called The Clown Arounds; Bubbles was the youngest clown kid). She quickly became my best friend and we were inseparable. She slept under my bed every night, even when she was perhaps too old... to squish under there, and we taught her to take our socks off our feet without ruining them (or biting our toes!). She was there for me through my parents divorce and my emotional teen years. She let me cry into her fur when I was heartbroken, and kept me company when I marathoned the Lord of the Rings films over and over and over. Bubbles was so gentle with our cats and guinea pigs, and loved roaming my grandmothers 10 acre farm. When I moved away for University, she moved to Newfoundland with my mom and step dad. Bubbles lived to the great age of 16 and passed away in the Autumn of 2010. I will never ever forget her. She was the first thing in this world that was truly mine and she taught me a countless number of invaluable lessons about love and trust. See more

She struggles with some on-leash reactivity so we are doing private Training Walks to build her confidence and reduce stress. Our Training Walks are loosely structured to maximize engagement and fun in the clients neighborhood; utilizing urban agility, introducing new objects, practicing engaging/disengaging when triggers are around, and also allowing for free roam sniffing in safe spa...ces. Everything is customized to the dogs needs and comfort zones. Lucy is training with @positivepawstraining, who referred her owners to me so we can work as a team to give Lucy the best life! . . I am looking to hire an independent contractor to help with walks. Experience with positive reinforcement and reactive dogs is an asset, but I can train you. Part time to start. Could be more if you have the time and motivation. Must be able to walk long distances and carry a backpack with equipment (rain gear, first aid kit, treats, water, leashes, etc). Downtown Vancouver mostly. Vehicle is an asset, but not required. I would pay mileage but not parking.
