One thing I own I wish I didn't: self-doubt. Anyone feel me? I wish I could just kick that no good, good-for-nothin', dirty, rotten, icky self-doubt right into the oblivion it deserves to live and die in. But you know what, I have decided that the best way for me to do that is to just own what I've got and #rockit. So I called up Ashley, a past client and the owner of Clearly Lovely Photography and said, "Hey girl, fit me in for a photo-shoot. This mama needs some 'me' time!"... And that's what we did. I had SO much fun planning out my outfits for this shoot, deciding how I was going to do my hair, what my make-up was going to look like. Maybe that all sounds pretty trivial. But y'all - it was the first time in too long that I actually spent 5 minutes thinking about myself. Afterwards, I went back and spent time with my family, feeling hella gorgeous, and actually refreshed! Hubby even commented on how high my spirits were So maybe you should try it out? Do something just for you that is GOOD for you. Eating ice cream doesn't count. Hey guys - we're in the thick of wedding season over here, and along with weekly boudoir sessions, I also make time for weddings, both photo & film! Here's a film I did in May for Trent & Taylor. There were so many moments from this wedding that just felt SO special, and I can say with my whole heart that I LOVED being apart of this day. There is something absolutely soul filling about filming someones wedding. I dream about it at night, constantly coming up with new angles, new shot ideas, new ways to tell someone's unique story. To say I am obsessed is actually probably an understatement. Please enjoy my latest creation :)

Am I doing it right? Is this how you #instagood your life? But in all seriousness, does anyone else ever feel like they’re faking it? I know for myself it’s been hard to take all the typical advice out there that says one of two things:... - find your authentic voice - be your true self I have always felt like I’m not enough. When I look for my authentic voice I hear that I’ll never make it, I won’t be good enough, no ones going to listen. So trying to take that advice out there to find my true self and my authentic voice is tough. How do you find a true voice when that’s the one you’re hearing? I listened to an amazing podcast today by @jennakutcher and her guest said, you don’t need to find your true voice. You don’t need to find your authentic self. You ARE your authentic self. What you’re speaking IS your true voice. Stop looking. Start doing. Man did that resonate with me. Actually I already AM my true self. Actually I already HAVE my authentic voice. I don’t need to do anything different than be who I am. That’s pretty powerful. So I’m sharing with you today in case you needed to hear it too. We’re all in this together, and if my small corner of the internet reminds you that you are enough, then I’m doing what I set out to do when I first became a photographer and filmmaker: #lifteachotherup Thanks for being apart of this community. Most days you can find me outdoors. There’s something about fresh air, quiet, stillness that just speaks to my soul. I have lived in many beautiful places, and I often take for granted the one I live in now: Lethbridge, Canada. I have actually lived by this park for 3 years and never set foot in it until this morning. With Kohen waking up at 5AM I decided today we would take advantage of the morning sunshine. He was thrilled to be going on an adventure, and I was excited to b...e shooting a new subject: me. Stepping in front of the camera isn’t easy. Making a choice to allow yourself the vulnerability to show up and be seen is something I’m constantly working on. If I’m going to talk the talk, I better walk the walk. So here are 3 tips for taking photos of yourself: 1. A timer is your best friend. Set it with enough time to pose and you’re good to go 2. Don’t be afraid to smile. I have always found people their most beautiful when they’re smiling. It’s true for you too, so stop giving a half smile or a fake smile and just go for it! 3. Try a few different poses, do what feels natural at first but then when you’re feeling inspired, try something new! Existing in photographs is important. I used to think taking pictures like this was taking me out of the moment. But I’ve realized that stopping here, making a choice to take a photo and be in it, it actually caused me to be more present. I wasn’t off in my thoughts somewhere, I wasn’t in work mode as I can be when the camera is around. I was just looking at this beautiful landscape, at my beautiful son, and taking it all in. Hey y’all! I’m Katie of Katie Kay Photography! For those of you who don’t know me, or are just friends online so far, it’s really nice to meet you! I figured you probably haven’t seen my face around here before, but you’ll definitely notice that you’ll be seeing me a lot more. So here’s a little info about me so we can get properly acquainted: I’m 30 as of this post, and I’ve been photographing boudoir & weddings for 9 years. Holy tolito where did the time go?! I have a ...super cute son Kohen and an amazing hubby Kelli and we all bunk up with our two doggos Judah and Shadow: I live in beautiful Southern Alberta, Lethbridge to be precise, but I’m actually from Vancouver originally These days I split my time between being a mom, a photographer and most recently a filmmaker! I absolutely love dogs and often Kelli and I will stop what we’re saying mid sentence just to point out a cute doggo. In fact we once met Sansa Stark of GoT in Montreal but we were so busy petting her dog we didn’t even realize it was her until 5 minutes into a convo about her husky pup! I hope you’ll stay along to join me on my adventures! I’ll be sharing everything from my work (which you’re used to already if you’ve been following for a while), my day to day life, behind the scenes as a photographer/film maker, plus random projects that I like to tackle and maybe a few cute doggos here & there! Yes friends, it's true! We're due with baby #2!! I will be taking clients until March 2020 and then not again until August 2020 - so if you are thinking of booking, get in before I am on hiatus for a few months!

Wanna know a secret.....? These are the only pair of high-heels I own *shocked face* I have size 10 shoes (where my tall girls at!) and I used to own over 40 pairs, which is quite the accomplishment when you've got the largest shoe size a lot of brands carry. I had gorgeous heels from all over, my most favourite being an uber expensive pair I wore once for NYE in my early 20s from @bcbgmaxazria. So what happened? ... Firstly, a really crappy relationship happened. I physically went from being 5'11 and happy to wear heels, to making myself look and feel as small as humanly possibly. I got rid of half my shoes. Then, getting out of that crappy relationship, I realized that everything in my life essentially reminded me of it, so I had to purge. I sold the other half to this really nice girl from swap n buy who I hope enjoys the heck out those shoes. Then, I met Kelli. And although he's almost the same height as me (he's 2 inches taller, apparently), I never felt comfortable wearing high heels. I never wanted to appear taller than him (anyone know what I mean?) So what did he do? He bought shoes with a little lift in them for himself, so that I wouldn't feel self-conscious wearing high heels. Wow. *Jaw drop* What a nice guy! So even though these are my only pair of high heels (because let's face it, where am I wearing these to anyways?) I love and cherish them because they aren't just shoes, they're a symbol of feeling confident in my own skin, of rocking it with no regrets, and of finding true happiness in a person and marrying the heck out of him.
