Katie Wolk, RMT & Clinical Herbalist 26.05.2021

This is always a busy season for massage therapists and my schedule is completely full until the end of 2020. In order to better serve my current clients (some of whom are on a waitlist) I have made the decision to not accept new clients at this time. Thank you so much for your inquiries!!! I will re-evaluate where I'm at in the new year and will post updates on this page. Thank you for your patience. You can check out other amazing RMTs in Deep River: Meghan at the chiro office, Tammy Wilcox-Doiron, Monique Sproule, and Jennifer Sharman. Thank YOU!!!!

I am so happy to announce I will be re-opening on June 25!!! Thank you for your patience throughout this whole situation. As a regulated health professional I have to follow many new processes, paperwork, supplies and protocols in order to ensure my clinic space is safe for everyone who enters it, and for myself and my husband who live here. Please read this entire message because it contains information you will need in order for me to confirm your appointment. The fir...Continue reading

This Friday to Sunday there is an online herbal symposium featuring talks by highly respected herbalists and is open to everyone no matter your level of knowledge or experience with herbal medicine. I'm so thankful for this learning opportunity, as my annual conferences and gatherings had to be cancelled this year. If you register before June 10 you qualify for the early bird rate. Prices are in USD.

I've been doing my best to work quickly to make changes in order to be compliant for a safe reopening. It hasn't been easy. I have done about 5 hours of online learning with 2 more to go. I have researched and ordered the best disinfectant (in my opinion) that is safe for my table and all surfaces that will be cleaned between clients including light switches, bathroom, chairs, changing area wall, etc... It's on the government's list of approved disinfectants and is botani...cal-based. Benefect Decon 30. It smells like lemon and thyme :-) I ordered masks which should arrive mid-June. I also ordered vinyl pillows which will be disinfected between each client. Today I made a vinyl cover for my massage table because my table is 7 years old and has a few tears and scratches. The table warmer can't be disinfected so I made this vinyl cover (with material I bought at Fabricland) to go on top of it. I haven't tested the amount of heat that comes through yet. I have created a cleaning log, a visitor log, and a client screening form which will be filled out over the phone with me before your appointment and as soon as you step foot in the door. I also ordered a vinyl apron because it's not realistic for me to change my clothes between each client as is recommended. Some of these changes and precautions may seem like overkill and paranoia but it's important to realize when you come for a massage we will be within 2 metres of each other with direct contact sharing the same air (wearing masks) for an hour in a pretty small space. So there is a lot of work to be done and a lot to prepare for but I'm happy to abide, happy to provide therapy, and happy to see all of you soon. See more

Thank you for being so patient as we ride out this storm together. Late last night all massage therapists across the province received an email from our regulating body, the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO), notifying us we are allowed to gradually start reopening our practices. There is a lot of work to be done on my end before I can safely provide treatments: having the right PPE, disinfecting supplies, a few changes to the treatment room itself, new form...s to be filled out, etc... There will be some differences to your massage treatments now than before the pandemic. You will be required to wear a mask for the duration of your treatment (as well as anyone who is accompanying you inside my clinic). I will be wearing a mask too. I will be ordering disposable masks for clients that do not bring their own. There will be a pre-screening process that I still need to figure out. You will be required to wash/sanitize your hands upon entering my clinic. There will not be as many time slots available for you to book because I will need more time between each client to thoroughly disinfect the workspace and to allow for the extra administrative requirements on my end. The CMTO has advised us to prioritize clients with essential care needs while gradually resuming practice. Treatment is considered essential when the client’s overall health or function would considerably decline if treatment were not provided (i.e. lead to hospitalization or other serious health consequences). I will be in touch with clients who were in the middle of a treatment plan with me under DVA, WSIB, and MVA to give you priority. I do not have a re-opening date set and I will keep my online booking closed until then. I will be ordering my PPE, and following all the required guidelines in order to return to work safely and as quickly as possible. Please check your emails and my Facebook page for further updates. My Facebook page is Katie Huckabone, RMT and Clinical Herbalist. Thank you so much for your emails, messages and phone calls. I have been missing all of you so much and I hope to have more solid information for you within the next two weeks.

A few months ago I came to the bottom of my EOS lip balm and last week finished up my Baby Lips lip balm. I had never refilled either container before and decided to have an adventure. I was really curious about the Baby Lips container (green one) because at the very bottom, once you scoop out the very last of the balm there is a hole in the centre of the base. Whaaaat?!? I had to know if it could be refilled, and how. Although there were a few mishaps and spills along t...he way (that's me all the time) I am extremely happy with the result! My first step was to boil water and put the empty containers in to allow any remaining lip balm to be melted out, for the container to be sterilized, and then to make sure they were dry dry dry. Click the images for descriptions and thanks for joining me on my tinted lip balm journey. In the future I wouldn't bother with adding lipstick for colour. It doesn't add a tint. Even a swatch on my wrist turns out clear. It does look pretty though in the container. See more

I am making more of my bug sprays called Walk in the Woods and Baby Steps in the Woods (suitable for children under 3). They are in 120 ml aluminum bottles. They are both effective but because they're natural and essential oils are volatile and evaporate you have to spray every 20-30 minutes if you're outside for a long time. The scent is incredible - you can even use them as a room spray!!!! The essential oils they contain are effective against mosquitoes, black flies an...d ticks. I often get questions about whether they're safe for dogs. There is so much conflicting research about essential oils and dogs so I recommend you do some reading and do what you are comfortable with. Walk in the Woods contains: distilled water, yarrow tincture, witch hazel, lavender, citronella, geranium, peppermint, clove and thyme. Baby Steps in the Woods contains: distilled water, yarrow tincture, witch hazel, lavender, citronella and tea tree. They are $15 per bottle and I can deliver if you live between Pembroke and Stonecliffe. See more

In an effort to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19, the Government of Ontario has extended the closure of all non-essential businesses until May 19, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. This may be extended but that is the latest update.
