DIY Brides where you at? Here’s some tips if you are wanting to DIY your wedding flowers..warning.. this is a long one.. Tip 1- First ask yourself DO YOU HAVE ...THE TIME? You know more than anyone how busy you will be..are you willing to add one more thing on your growing To Do List. I’m not trying to dissuade you if you feel like you are up for the task! Tip 2- Please make sure you have help..and maybe ask first if they even want to help and not assume your bridesmaids will want to stay up late the night before, trying to create all their bouquets and wedding centrepieces. ..is this worth losing your friends over? Tip 3-KEEP IT SIMPLE! If your goal is to save a bit of cash then you might have to kill that type A, perfectionist voice in your head.. don’t go assuming you can make a giant garden style or cascading bouquet the night before and expect it to look like the one on your Pinterest. That’s a sure fire way to stress yourself out! Don’t try to make something so elaborate. Pick only a few varieties of flowers to work with and watch YouTube videos and tutorials, or take a workshop days if not months before the wedding! Tip 4-Be ready and have all your supplies ready ahead of time. Get a sharp pair of clippers..you will thank me.. don’t try to cut your stems with scissors..it’s not happening. Even better if you can grab some grocery store flowers and practice beforehand! Tip 5-Be Realistic in what you can accomplish! This goes hand in hand with keeping it simple. Yes You can totally bang out 10 centrepieces..but can you do that if you have to still make 6 bouquets and 6 boutineers, the flower girl and ring bearer flowers? Take me back to this rooftop beach wedding day. I have been trying to organize my toddler's toys while she is playing, which I think is like trying to brush your teeth and eat Oreos at the same time. She gets one bin of toys to play with, and I rotate them every 3-4 (or 6) weeks. ... I am not that parent that can handle the mess and toys everywhere. I am not the mom who does painting and messy play. I thought I would be, I thought I could be. But I leave that up to her time at daycare. We will read books, and do puzzles and play with stickers. That is what keeps me sane. This used to be a HUGE no-no in all things etiquette, but with restrictions in place that change often, it is reality for couples now.

Love is love, and I want to shout that from the rooftops and celebrate every love. For years, my clients were heterosexual couples with a bride and a groom. I never felt comfortable doing a model call looking for an LGBTQ+ couple, because I didn’t want anyone to feel like they were being used. My portfolio and social media showed no reason/no photos for anyone other than a hetero couple to hire me. It killed me a little that so many couples were likely uncomfortable... to ask, or not provided service because I didn’t have any way to show that I am accepting. I am SO incredibly thankful to have not only met Aaron and Adam, but to have captured their love, their wedding ceremony and portraits, and this chapter of their love story. And that even though they saw no couples like them in my portfolio, they trusted me. Maybe there is a hashtag out there I haven’t found, or a google search I didn’t try but it seems to me that LGBTQ+ folks in Lethbridge and possibly Southern Alberta, are underserved for their wedding and photography needs. Happy last day of 2020! I’m not gonna say it was the worst year ever because some great things happened. But I definitely came into 2020 thinking new decade, new great things. Boy oh boy. 2020 most definitely had ups and downs... We were able to travel for a destination wedding before the virus spread. (Even though in February I had no idea why the airlines were asking if we had recently returned from Wuhan China) We welcomed so many new babies into our family and friend circles. I was busier than I’ve ever been with boudoir. I had lots of disappointed couples and replanned plans with weddings postponed. But they are taking in stride with the extra time to plan. Next year is going to be better. We will be grateful and thankful for time spent together after so long apart. Wedding Tip Wednesday - Wedding Coordinator vs Venue Coordinator This is a video series to answer questions and share tips with couples like you, who are planning your wedding. Today I am talking about the difference between a venue coordinator, and a wedding coordinator. And yes, there is a difference. A venue coordinator is there to look after the venue and some of the details while at the venue. A wedding coordinator is there to look after you, and all things about your wedding. A wedding coordinator can be as involved with your wedding as helping you choose and book vendors, keep on budget and review contracts with you or be there to make sure your wedding day goes smoothly and act as an extension of you on your wedding day. A little before and after for your Friday. Ashley & Tyler rescheduled their wedding because of COVID-19 and didn't want to add extra financial stress to their family and friends who would be attending their July wedding. When we did their engagement photos in November, Ashley brought along a puck with their wedding date on it. They are both huge Edmonton Oilers Fans. I thought I would edit a few of their photos with their new wedding date on it.

I find that if you are nervous or emotional, the first look works to calm your nerves and you are able to have that emotional moment together, just the two of you (with your photographers in the background to capture it). How could you not feel better seeing your best friend? Another reason I like first looks, it can be a benefit to your timeline! Wedding Tip Wednesday - Alternative Ceremony Seating Arrangement ::Disclaimer:: I try to be very inclusive with my vocabulary, but in this video, it is a whole lot easier if I explain this by saying bride/groom, he/she and his/her. I recorded this weeks ago when it was still safe to meet with people, so pay no mind when I mention that I met with a couple this past weekend. They shared something from their marriage commissioner, and I loved it too much not to share. The seating arrangement is this When facing the altar, the bride and bridal party are generally on the left, and the groom and groomsmen are on the right. And normally, the respective parents and families sit on those same sides BUT What you should do have your parents and family sit opposite of you so when you are facing each other, they can see your face rather than the side of your head! So If the bride is standing on the left, her parents and family sit on the right. If the groom is standing on the right, his parents and family sit on the left. MIND. BLOWN. I cant believe that in 8 years of shooting weddings, I have never seen this. I love this! Friday Introduction!! There are a lot of new faces around here... so I will show you mine I know I am on my stories often, but here are some few things about me.... - I have been photographing weddings and boudoir for 8 years... that is an anniversary worth celebrating! - I am a mama to Goldie Margaret, who is almost 10 months old now but 6 months old in these pictures (by @janitadekokphotography ) and also to my fur baby/senior doggy, Mila - We just bought a house after many years of being both tenants and landlords - I LOVE steeped tea from Tim Hortons... like, I go out of my way to get one with two sugar and one milk in the mornings... Wedding Tip Wednesday - Having your wedding at a venue vs. at home This is a bi-weekly video series to answer questions and share tips for couples like you, who are planning your wedding. I wanted to do a video to chat about venues vs. having your wedding at your home or a family or friend's home. I want to say probably 95% of weddings are at a venue? I don't know the numbers, and I think it depends on where you are located. But I also understand when couples want to make it extra special and get married at their home, or a family/friend's home where it has extra meaning. But when you book at a venue, there are a lot of things that are taken care of that you don't ever have to worry about or even think of (ie. bathrooms, parking, and power) I really don't want to offend anyone when I do these videos or make anyone worry when they are going this route.
