Katrina Schaman is excited to debut her new series of work in her first showing at Black Cat Artspace. In this solo exhibition Quilted Escape the artist celebrates the underlying relationship between abstract and recognizable forms while exploring the balance between fantasy and reality. With her landscape paintings, Katrina hopes to create a sense of nostalgia in her viewers that allows their imaginations to thrive. She paints our embellished memories, feelings, and imag...inings, instead of the established reality we typically see. This will be Katrina’s first showing since a devastating studio fire destroyed over 6 months of her work as well as all of her tools, supplies, and studio belongings. It’s been a difficult yet incredibly rewarding journey to this point and she is very happy to invite you to be a part of it. Please join Katrina at her show opening! I'm so excited to finally show my installation, A Diverse Landscape, to you! It will be up in the First Canadian Place lobby from now until September 26th. I've been working on these pieces all summer and I'm so happy to share them with you!

Only 9 (3 now) little foxes remain! Set across various terrain... They love to jump and prance and roam; But mostly they're in search of a home!... On Saturday May 19 in the early morning my beloved Walnut Studios caught fire and the north side (my side) was destroyed. I am heartbroken. My wonderful studio space that I've spent the last 3 years building and slowly perfecting was destroyed along with all of my paintings, supplies, and cherished studio belongings. Along with just the fire damage there was also smoke, heat, and water damage. I spent most of my waking hours at the studio creating and being inspired. ... I'm very thankful that nobody was injured but I'm devastated for what we all lost. My heart also breaks for the other Walnut artists who are in a similar situation to me. I love the Walnut community and after we greive I'm sure we will emerge stronger. I have not lost my most important creative tools which are thankfully always by my side and I will never lose creative spirit which is always with me. I'm certain that I will be up and creating again very soon and sharing my new work with all of you :) We will be back!

'An Orange Wind Kind of Day' is multi-layer narrative project I’ve been working on for the past few months with 54 original paintings, a poster, and a short story. When viewed together the 6 by 6 original fox paintings form a large overall whimsical forest scene based on my initial poster design. ... As the original paintings have been selling I’ve been replacing them with black and white prints so the overall scene can stay in tact for the duration of the show! I hope you can come by and check it out! I’m in booth J12 at the One of a Kind Show :)
