Sadly today was our final card of racing for the 2020 season here at Kawartha Downs but we made the most of it as it was awesome day of racing. Kawartha Downs would like to congratulate our leading driver of the meet, Nick Boyd as he pulled away from the competition with a total of 36 wins at a 25.6% win rate and a 0.424 UDRS. Today was Caretaker Appreciation Day not only here at Kawartha Downs, but at racetracks all over as well, recognizing the hard work that each of the grooms put in every day to take care of the equine athletes. There were many prizes to be won for the grooms/caretakers here at KD involving many prize draws, and the winning caretaker of each race received a Tim Hortons gift card courtesy of the Central Ontario Standardbred Association. Kawartha Downs would like to wish a happy belated birthday to both veteran driver Doug Brown & local trainer Russel Moore!!

Event though we are approaching the final few weeks of the meet here at Kawartha Downs, the action on the track is still better than ever. In the first race, it was Shifting views who battled down the lane to win as the favourite in 1:56.3 with Eric Adams driving for trainer Nick Gallucci & owner Millar Farms. In race 2, we saw a huge upsetting win with Lilys Penelope at 30-1, who came flying out down the stretch to win in 1:56.3 with Clarke Steacy in the bike for trainer/own...er Sheldon Rose Anthem Seelster took the third race with an open win by 5 lengths in a time of 1:55 with Nick Boyd driving for trainer Taylor Fritz and owner Dale Kerr Race 4 saw Dreamex just get up in time by a neck to win in 2:00.2 with driver, trainer & owner Danial Murphy. Caseys Dragon & Ryan Guy too todays 5th race in minor upsetting fashion at. 5-1, getting up just by a neck in a time of 1:55.4 for trainer Pat Rouleau & Frank Provenzano Making his 3rd consecutive win at Kawartha Downs in the 6th race was none other than Justa Bandit, who also just got up to wire by a neck in 1:55 with Nick Boyd in the bike ,making it another double day with. 2 wins on the card, for trainer Boyd Wilson & owner Owen Wilson. Another huge upsetter came in race 7 with Putnams Fire at just over 20-1, winning by a length over 15-1 shot East Bound Eddie in 1:56.3 and driven by Clarke Steacy, getting his driving double of the day, and trainer/owner Jason Mitchell. Eric Adams came back in race 8 with Ruby on Rails to get himself a driving double over the KD oval in a time of 1:56 for trainer Nick Gallucci for owner Millar Farms. Sonofamillionaire took the 9th race with Reg Gassien in the bike, crossing the wire in 1:56.2 up by 6 lengths for trainer Russel Bax & owner Baxmar Holsteins In race 10, it was Brigadierbronski A who also just got by a neck to win today in a time of 1:53! Brigadierbronski A is owned & trained by Luc Loyer and was driven to victory by Justin Turcotte. For todays finally on a card of 11 races, it was the Machapelo who cleared to the lead at the 1/2 and took the race home, holding on by a head in 1:55.2, revisiting the KD winners circle with Doug Brown driving for John MacMillan & co-owner 2099551 Ontario Inc The next card of racing will be on September 19, with post time at 4:00pm Make to sign up on our website to reserve your spot to come watch the races live on the tarmac. Mark that off as another great day here at Kawartha Downs as a a full card filled with a lot of awesome & exiting races took place over the Fraserville Oval. Nick Boyd got off to an early roll with a win in the 1st race with Justa Bandit in a time of 1:54.1 for Boyd & Owen Wilson, making it his 2nd consecutive win at KD. Coming back again in the 2nd race, Nick won again with Dorset Bay after making a miscue behind the gate and then wiring the field at 7-1, by a head in 2:00.3... for Brian Samis. Robintheatm went wire to wire in Race 4 in a time of 1:56.1, holding on by a solid 3 lengths, with Nick Boyd in the bike for Danielle St Louis. Also making 3 wins in a row for Boyd. Beach Moment & Jim Gillespie got up just by neck past Boyd & Got Sexy Scars to win the 5th race, a leg of the prospect series for 2 year old pacing fillies, winning in 1:57.2 for Blake MacIntosh and the co-ownership of Hutt Racing Stable, Mortgage Boys Stable. Another coast to coast winner came in race 6 with Big Journey in a time of 1:54.2 with Doug Brown driving for Teresa Stokes & Heather Young In race 7, Sea Laird made a visit back to the Kawartha Downs winners circle, coming from off the pace to win in 1:55 with Doug Brown at the reigns for John Macmillan & seaspray stables. Doug Brown made it 3 consecutive wins with a victory in race 8, driving Macho Polo to a 1 length win in 1:54.2 for Robert Fellows & Patrick Dillon Race 9 went to Sonofamillionaire who won by a head in a time of 1:58 with Reg Gassien in control for Russel Bax & Baxmar Holsteins Ltd. Nick Boyd capped of the night with a total of 4 wins on the card with a win in the finale behind Grantor Hanover in a final time of 1:57.4 for Mark Winnacott & Jessica L Kulcher.
