Selective A virtual exhibition featuring the work of Grade 12 and International Baccalaureate Visual Arts students from I.E. Weldon Secondary School in Lindsay, Ontario. TATTOO SKULL... By Hope Sheahan Watercolour and sharpie on watercolour paper 18" x 24" Not For Sale ABOUT MY ARTWORK: This work explores the contrasts between dull and light colours in a sense that the girl shows herself in black and white but she is actually a happy person and the background shows what she is feeling. I really liked the spider webs on the background to make the background relate more with the girl. The spider webs on the girls cheek bones show that she is one with the background deep down. I chose to give her skull tattoos to show that she can only express herself by tattoos and piercings. View the full exhibit on our website: https://ecs.page.link/tD4po

Works From Home Featured Artist - Grace Hanney ARTIST STATEMENT I learned to paint using acrylics in 2017, after taking a workshop at the local library. I continue to paint in this medium because it lifts my spirits and provides a constant challenge to improve my technique and skill. It’s a fun way to stretch my artistic muscles and use some of my free time productively.... My favourite subject is nature, so I paint landscapes. Because I have lived on or near water my entire life, there is often some element of that from puddle to ocean in my pieces. I also enjoy playing with the myriad shades of green foliage on display in nature. For a change of pace, I occasionally create flower still-life paintings as well. My inspiration comes from the rural views around me both at home and wherever I travel. I usually use small (8x10 or 9x12) stretched canvases or canvas boards and often have several paintings on the go, moving from one to the other in order to keep a fresh eye. My style leans to realism; adding in tiny, sometimes whimsical, details keeps me from taking myself too seriously. If seeing my art lifts your spirits too, then I’m content. We present for our viewers enjoyment and education: ART + NATURE: OUR ENVIRONMENT IN IMAGES + WORDS Selected Works from the Permanent Collection + Circle of Writers. "AMPLE SPACE TO BREATHE" BY SCOTT STEPHENS... INSPIRED BY PURPLE BOG WITH MOSS BY URSULA REESE It has ample space to breathe, and take its shape. It has time to make its rhythm a fluid voice. It opens its door to any electric glass sphere near dawn, and trimmed hedges on autumn cold afternoons. The trail of a sunbeam refracts in random pathways caught by an eye absorbing both riverbanks with icy gray marshes emitting windblown earth mist. The world seems frail when it sleeps pure and frozen. Breath is too deep at dawn for dread - work braces the heart. Branches fan out like cracks in glass - axe jams into log. Clawed by deep cold at the back door - fire warms bellies. A mild smile as snow caked boots come off. What’s underneath the heavy coat, the lined pants, is drenched with wholesome sweat. Words underneath the heavy breathing chest say what begins. View the full exhibit on our website: www.kawarthagallery.com

Works From Home Featured Artist - Elayne Windsor ARTIST STATEMENT I am a non-objective, collage artist from Reaboro, Ontario.... My collages are often interpreted as painting from a distance, but as people move closer, they discovered that the work was created out of paper. Some viewers relate to a tiny fragment of paper contained within the piece, a piece which sparks a particular memory. Other viewers connect to the beauty of paper and the new life that it has been given. My work contains paper that has been sourced from old books, maps, playing cards, sewing patterns, scrapbook material or the trash- basically I am always looking at paper and contemplating the life that is left in it after it has been abandoned. I am more interested in the quality of the paper than the images that are contained on the paper. Paper speaks to the slow world in juxtaposition to our fast electronic world. Sometimes understanding the big picture means spreading it all out on the floor in front of you- crawling over the large paper map, slow nights playing cards around the table, the days of sending greeting cards through the mail or spending Saturday reading the newspaper. My work spreads these memories out in front of you. Works From Home Featured Artist - Anders Widjedal ARTIST STATEMENT While in self isolation I decided to explore a variety of ideas and mediums.... I had several projects on the go at the same time and it was interesting to see how they fed each other, even though the approaches were quite different. (This was also a good way to keep me entertained). Some of those ideas can be seen in the exhibit Recycle 100 held by the Kawartha Art Gallery. The show contained oil pastel still lifes of everyday objects with a focus on composition and use of colour. That work led to a deeper exploration into colour, shape and placement of objects. I also wanted to explore the idea of blur. The work became more abstract and I went digital to get the effect and contrast I was looking for. Digital exploration and digital painting have become a complement to my traditional drawing and painting practice. I decided to show two pieces from that exploration.
