Practicing social distancing doesn’t mean practicing social isolation. There is so much value to chatting on the phone with long lost friends and close family. We would even recommend you give a wave or say hi to your mail carrier (from a distance of course) as it promotes a sense of connectedness in your community. . . Being connected is so important, especially for older adults and caregivers. Have you talked to someone new today?

Hey new parents! We know this can be a challenging time for you without the regular support that you would have from family and friends. So.. we have compiled this list of helpful tricks for adjusting to your new situation. . 1. Try all the soothing tricks Crying babies want to be soothed. You may need to try a few things before you figure out what your baby needs, so try to be patient with yourself and test out a few soothing techniques, like gently rocking, feeding, or soo...thing your baby. . 2. Pay attention to your own needs. Being a new parent is taxing, be sure to get rest as often as you can, and practice other self-care activities. . 3. Connect with others Try video calls or social media. If you’re a friend or support person for the new parent, Try holding space for them as much as possible as if you were with them offering a hug or shoulder to cry on. This is so important. . 4. Don’t be afraid to seek help. We all struggle and postpartum depression is real. This can give the new parent a sense of normalcy in their life and some more adult talk. .... . Send them a care package! We can still send love by sending groceries or other child care necessities. Is there an elderly person in your life that’s feeling blue from a lack of connection? We have 3 ideas that might help you feel closer than you’ve ever been. . . 1. Teach them the new technology! If they’ve got a computer or smartphone you can talk them through downloading and running some of the apps that help keep us connected. Think Snapchat, FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, Facebook, Twitter, and so much more.. .... . 2. Stay active in the community from home! Many community groups connect over the phone. Call your local church, or other organization and ask them if there’s anything you can do to help remotely. . . 3. Reach out to family and friends! This one, I think is the most important - however you’re doing it (phone, text, email, Skype), keep accountable to at least one other person. The CDC is actually recommending that we adhere to a buddy system anyways. So find your buddy and get chatting! See more
