Chuncheon Makguksu also can be served in two different forms: 1) Boiled Buckwheat noodles in kimchi and dongchimi soup, or... 2) Boiled buckwheat noodles mixed with vegetables, seasonings, mustard, broth, etc. Chunchan Makguksu is a local specialty of the Gangwon province in South Korea. The Korean Cultural Centre invites you to join us in celebrating 2021 Korean Lunar New Year or Seollal by making paper hanbok. Seollal is one of the most important traditional Korean holidays and the celebration usually lasts three days. Families would gather for this annual holiday and celebrate by eating Tteokguk, playing Yut Nori, and bowing (Sebae) to the elderly. Families would dress in colorful Korean traditional clothing called Hanbok. Celebrate this year’s Seollal b...y learning how to make paper Hanbok. Once you sign up, we will send you a Paper Hanbok-making kit by mail. To that end, the team makes a variety of attempts by utilizing diverse aspects of traditional Korean sound, trying to create comfortable and enjoyabl...e music. ABSOLUTE_GAIN puts its emphasis on beautiful and feminine melodies and delicate beat plays, thereby bringing out each member’s strengths and integrating them. It never stops trying to fully express the unique sigimsae, composition and phrasing of Korean traditional music. This short intro video of the exhibition is led by EuiJung McGillis (Art historian and Independent curator) and Ilyoung Jung (Exhibition designer). Budae-jjigae, first created during the Korean War, has a relatively short history. The budaejjigae, which literally translates as "Army base stew" originated from the US Army bases in Korea. Then, as Koreans started adopting the idea of using sausage and ham in broth, it quickly became one of the Koreans’ favorite fusion stew. The KCC launched th...e K-Food Webtoon series last April to introduce Korean food and recipes to provide an opportunity to learn how to cook and try Korean food from home. We hope you enjoy these recipes and continue to experience Korean culture at home. Sunmin Han worked as the head chef at the Korean Ambassador’s residence in Canada. She graduated from the International Cooking College in Korea, has a certificate from the Institute of Korean Traditional Food, and worked as the head chef at the Korean Embassy in Indonesia. About ‘Budaejjigae’ A fusion dish made with ham, sausage, kimchi, pork, and bean curd. Everything is combined and cooked in spicy broth. Ramen noodles are often added to the simmering stew. Today, we would like to introduce Tangpyeongchae (mung bean jelly (made from mung bean powder) with five colored ingredients - stir-fried meat, vegetables, julienned fried egg, and laver - in a cho-ganjang (soy sauce with vinegar).... The KCC launched the K-Food Webtoon series last April to introduce Korean food and recipes to provide an opportunity to learn to cook and try Korean food from home. About ‘Tangpyeongchae’ The name of tangpyeongchae is derived from the discussion of the tang pyeong agenda for cooperation between different factions during the reign of Yeongjo in the Joseon Dynasty. Tangpyeongchae symbolizes harmony as five different garnishes perfectly go along together. Thinly sliced mung bean muk (jelly) with sautéed beef, Korean parsley, egg garnish, and roasted dried laver. As the 9th program of the Visual Arts Series of Virtual Korean Culture, the Korean Cultural Centre Canada presents a "Bojagi" making video produced by the Hanbok Advancement Center. Bojagi, a traditional Korean wrapping cloth, is made from a variety of materials including silk and ramie. It is used for many things, for example, gift wrappings and weddings. "Making bojagi" is also a part of "Hanbok: Poetics of Line and the Passage of Life" exhibition which is currently on vie...w at the KCC Gallery. The KCC is pleased to distribute bojagi making kits for free to whoever visits the exhibition at the Gallery in person. The KCC launched the K-Food Webtoon series last April to introduce Korean food and recipes to provide an opportunity to learn how to cook and try Korean food from home. About ‘Jeyuk bokkeum’ For Jeyuk bokkeum, fatty cuts of pork belly taste the best. If lean shoulder or tenderloin is used, cut it into thin slices for a tender texture. [Virtual K-Culture #90] Performing Arts Series #21 - Yeonnori - Taepyungga YEONNORI, a contemporary vocal group with its name meaning talking and playing, consists of Kim Dae-Youn (male vocal), Jang Myeong-Seo (female vocal), Cho Hyoung-Joo (haegeum), Lee Keun-Jae (piri & saenghwang), and Son Sung-Kuk (composition & keyboards). The group creates works from reorganizing classic forty songs, twelve lyric verses and many pieces of sijo (Korean traditional poetry), and reinterpre...ts sijo works with various themes in its unique styles.
