HARPER EXTENDS BEST WISHES ON THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF SOUTH KOREA’S INDEPENDENCE Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued this statement to mark the 70th anniversary of the Republic of Korea’s independence: I am pleased to extend my best wishes to everyone in Canada and around the world celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Republic of Korea’s independence. This day, also known as the Gwangbokjeol, or ‘Restoration of Light Day,’ allows us to reflect on the success of South K...orea as an economic leader and innovator with a strong democratic foundation. We also remember the important role that Canada played in the Korean War, and the strong ties between Canada and Korea that have developed since then based on our shared values of freedom, democracy and the rule of law. I am especially pleased that our Conservative government negotiated and concluded the historic Canada-South Korea Free Trade Agreement that came into force earlier this year. On this day, we also celebrate the contributions of Canadians of Korean origin, who contribute immensely to our country, including as members of the Canadian Armed Forces and entrepreneurs. That is why I am proud to have appointed Canada’s first-ever Senator of Korean origin, Conservative Yonah Kim Martin, in 2009. I wish everyone celebrating today a very happy Korean Independence Day. Jason Kenney

Thank you. The opportunity to lead our Party is a privilege. It's one that I do not take lightly. It's a heavy responsibility, but also a great honour. To every... member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, I say this: I will leave no stone unturned to ensure that we win the next election. It is time to win again. There is no other acceptable outcome. The stakes are too high for our great Province. I will take every step possibleno matter how large or how smallto ensure that we are ready to take on and defeat Kathleen Wynne. I will professionalize, rebuild, and grow our Party. What does that mean? It means listening to you. It means building a team that knows how to win. It means working as hard as humanly possible. It means recognizing and working closely with Christine Elliott and the entire PC caucus to build upon the hard work and significant achievements that they were able to accomplish in reaching out to new supporters, in order to present a single unified Progressive Conservative vision to Ontarians. It means reaching out to communities that have never before been a part of our conservative movement, or who have been separated from us for too long. It means offering a new, different kind of leadership, one that is both pragmatic and rooted in our shared convictions: equal opportunity for all Ontarians so that all may enjoy the highest possible standards of living, health, education and social justice. To the greatest extent possible, individuals and families should keep the fruits of their hard work, while we protect the most vulnerable in our communities. For the past six months, I’ve been running for the win. Now I’m running a different kind of race it’s only just begun and I need you at my side. For Ontario. For You. Sincerely, Patrick
