Would you build a home to last for only 30 years? Most of us are aware that climate change is real and that relying on gas and oil is bad for a variety of reasons. No home built new today should be designed to use gas or oil, it’s a simple fact that any home designed to rely on these forms of energy is really only being designed to last for the short term. We'll be attending this show under our sister company branding, EkoBuilt, but will be very much there for conversations about log and timberframe homes and structures. Please let us know if you plan to attend - we'd love to see you there!

As we wind down for the holidays, we're thankful for a great year and what's to come in 2020. Whatever you may be celebrating at this time of year, we wish you all the best for now and the new year. Here's a fun little video project - how to make a reindeer from logs and twigs. http://kealeytackaberryloghomes.com//merry-christmas-to-y/

We shared earlier this year our plans to build a unique hunt camp on Manitoulin Island. We now have a fantastic video to share of this project. The foundation for this log cabin is post and beam. Typically a solid poured concrete wall would be used, but the post and beam approach with a spray foamed floor system is surprisingly economical for a hunt camp, which doesn’t need to be built to the same standards. Building a log bunkie as a companion outbuilding to your main log cabin or home is a great plan. It expands outdoor space and provides more living/guest space that is innately flexible. Our 9' x 12' Muskoka Bunkie is a great plan that includes a kitchen space and keeps the structure under 108 sq.ft. We've pulled together a detailed cost analysis document [ 241 more words ] http://kealeytackaberryloghomes.com//cost-analysis-for-bu/

Our Nova Scotia log home build this year has been a big focus, and we're really excited to share a great video of much of the build put together by the home owner. The video includes some great drone shots that really give a feel for the scale of this log home build. We last shared 3D renderings of the project [ 59 more words ] http://kealeytackaberryloghomes.com//great-video-of-huge-/

Having recently shared a series of pictures of the finished kitchen for a project in the village of Carp in West Ottawa, we thought a post focused on kitchens would be timely. Whether you're a gourmet cook, on the run to put together simple meals for your family, or just grabbing a cup of tea while catching up on paperwork, the kitchen is the hub for most of us. More than three years ago we first published a blog post on Timberframe vs. Timber Accents. That's a lot of water under the bridge and we know we have quite a few new followers since then. The topic is an enduring one, just as enduring as the Canadian love of log and timber homes. It’s important to first define what we mean when we’re talking about timber frame or timber accents.
