For those really missing the races this year who would still love to get some time with sled dogs, here is a great opportunity ! North Ridge Ranch is based in Huntsville (just 20 minutes south of Kearney). You start and finish in their beautifully designed kennel and can book 1 hour or half day tours for you and your family. Very thorough Covid 19 social distancing protocol are in place, but fortunately that does NOT include the dogs ! It is with the heaviest of hearts that our race committee is announcing the cancellation of our February 2021 Dog Sled Race. This decision was not made lightly or easily, and took careful consideration of many factors. For our specific event, first and foremost, the reality is that we are hosted by a very small, vulnerable, northern community. It is our ethical obligation to protect the citizens of Kearney in these unprecedented times. We feel it is our responsibility to en...sure our outstanding sponsors get the same value from working with us as we do from their generous yearly contributions. We also do not feel we can create an event that is both safe and feasible for the number of spectators and supporters who come to see the dogs year after year given public health guidelines on social gatherings. Rest assured that this is absolutely not the end of the Kearney Dog Sled Races! We will begin planning for February 2022 next spring and we vow to create a safe and fun event for all. Please keep checking back here for news, fun stories, race planning updates, and opportunities to support the dog sled race committee over the months to come! Stay safe, be well, and have a spectacular winter! - The Kearney Dog Sled Races Committee

From way back in 2000; Volunteers really are the only reason we are able to pull off our event and we appreciate them SO much! In more recent years we have scaled back on some of our race classes after difficulty getting enough volunteers to keep things safe for the mushers and dogs. We would love to welcome some new faces to the race committee! We have a few available positions that we will post more specific information about in the coming weeks. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, big or small, please reach out !

We're going to be posting some blasts from the past in the coming weeks. We want to cherish the good memories while we hope to make new ones this coming winter. The Kearney Dog Sled Race has been an iconic event in the town of Kearney for over 25 years now, and there is a lot of history to go along with that. Anyone remember this incident first hand?? Looks like someone had a little too much fun on a different kind of sled back in 2006!!

A great example of the power of WORK for a working dog breed. Just like herding dogs want to heart and hunting dogs want to hunt, sled dogs want to PULL. Often times dogs are craving a job; activity, stimulation, and mental engagement. Also, Follow Breakaway Siberians for some super cute content.

We asked our racers to send us some clips of what they're up to this summer to share with our supporters and they did not disappoint. If we missed you, or you're a musher watching, please feel free to comment some clips of what you and your dogs are up to this summer !! We hope everyone is enjoying the summer just as much as our teams and their humans are. Stay safe, cool, and happy out there.
