Updated figures show Albertans would give up $160 million in federal RCMP subsidies by transitioning to a provincial police force. This would put taxpayers on the hook for these costs plus substantial transition expenses. Now is not the time to proceed with unnecessary and costly changes to Alberta’s policing model. See the full cost breakdown here: https://www.keepalbertarcmp.ca/#news

"With a multitude of post-pandemic jobs already pending, whether the government should be moving ahead with the creation of an Alberta police force to replace the RCMP is an open question."

Alberta has a big say in planning RCMP services. The Alberta RCMP operates under significant provincial oversight. The Alberta government sets objectives, priorities, and goals annually. The Province’s Public Security Division then works closely with the Alberta RCMP to ensure these priorities are met and that policing levels are adequate and effective for Albertans.

The RCMP Serious Crimes Branch continue to investigate the disappearance of 5-year-old Leonine O'Driscoll-Zak and 2-year-old Wyatt O'Driscoll-Zak. Investigators... have been working around the clock to locate the girls and bring them home. The RCMP believe that children are with Allison and Therese O'Driscoll and that the family is receiving assistance from others to prevent them from being found. The RCMP want to send a clear message to those that are assisting, that even if they believe they are acting in their best interests of the children, any assistance provided that contributes to the abduction is a criminal offence and the RCMP will investigate those involved and charges may be laid. Any assistance being provided is only exasperating the situation. Police have not stopped investigating and won't stop until they locate the children. If you have any information in relation to their current location or about those who are assisting the family, please contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403-932-2211. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the "P3 Tips" app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store. https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca//cochrane-rcmp-request-assistan

As seen in other jurisdictions, a transition away from the RCMP would cost Albertans hundreds of millions of dollars in transition costs and lost federal subsidies. Why pay more for less? Learn more at www.keepalbertarcmp.ca.

Motorcycle season is right around the corner! This picture never fails to make us smile. Last year, a Member of the RCMP Integrated Traffic Services was on patrol in his police car when he saw a young boy with his toy police motorcycle. He stopped to speak with the boy and promised him that he would be back the next day with his own police motor bike. Thank you to this Member for making this a special moment, which will surely be kept as a fond memory for this young boy for years to come!

What is happening with the RCMP in Alberta? The Province of Alberta is looking at options to improve Alberta’s place in Canada as part of a Fair Deal Panel Review. One of the recommendations of this panel is to explore replacing the RCMP with an expensive new provincial police service. Research has shown that only 8% of Albertans support a transition to this model, so why now? The Province of Alberta is composed of 117 RCMP detachments, with ~3,500 RCMP Members serving 47 m...unicipalities and 21 First Nation communities. These Members respond to over 800,000 annual calls for service. They are committed to providing effective, accountable, and transparent policing to all communities they serve. These detachments are partially funded by the federal government. In fact, 30% of Alberta’s RCMP policing costs are subsidized, representing $112 million annually. By replacing the RCMP, Alberta taxpayers and local communities would be on the hook for this additional cost, on top of significant transition costs. Additionally, a transition away from the RCMP would result in less officers (at a potentially higher cost), which puts rural communities at risk. The Alberta RCMP created a Crime Reduction Strategy in 2018, addressing rural crime rates, which has achieved a 10% decrease in crime rates for rural detachments and 6% for municipal detachments so far. All of this progress would be put at risk by continuing down this path. RCMP Members work, live and serve in Alberta communities, large and small. They have deep personal, family, and social connections to the communities they serve. They partner with local programs, including Crime Stoppers, Centre for Youth Crime Prevention, Rural Crime Watch and Safely Home Program, among others. All these programs have the common goal of keeping their beloved communities safe. With a provincial police service, Albertans will pay more for less. Make your voice heard! Please visit www.keepalbertarcmp.ca today to learn more and send a letter to government telling them to keep the RCMP in Alberta. And please share this with your friends and family to help spread the word. Brian Sauvé President National Police Federation www.npf-fpn.com

Replacing the RCMP would cost Albertans millions more for less service, further deepening the difference between what Alberta contributes to Canada from what it receives. Learn more here: www.keepalbertarcmp.ca.
