It can take days for bull kelp to dry and shrink and settle around a broken fishing float. Sometimes I’m not sure what I’ll get. Today the results were good. #originalwestcoasttreasure #bullkelp #glassfishingfloats #keepingafloat #itshardtobepatient

During 42 years of fishing the west coast of British Columbia my Grandfather collected glass fishing floats. Some of his collection was passed on to me, and I learned how to break, and reconstruct them using stained glass techniques. Each candle holder is unique with the design determined by the way the float breaks. Accented with either hand crafted solder sea stars or bull kelp fronds a final touch can be a beach combed shell. The candle holder becomes the ultimate in recycling and an original west coast treasure.

Sixteen years ago I inherited my Granny's big wooden box of silver cutlery. My mild obsession with peas in a pod had me experimenting with freshwater pearls and the pretty little spoons. All these years later, I'm still making Pea Pod necklaces with vintage spoons, freshwater pearls and little Pea earrings to match. Some new Pea Pods went on the website today. #grannyssilver #vintagecutlery #peasinapod #originalwestcoasttreasure

Vintage glass fishing floats, who knows how many ocean currents they've travelled, or how many beaches they've washed up on. They can't tell us, but you could hang one in your window and spend some time admiring the perfect imperfections while wondering, "where have you been?" Four of todays floats are on on my website tonight. keepingafloat.ca
