This August, Nelson’s community’s was brought together by youth to raise $11,500 for War Child Canada. Keep the Beat has consistently brought together the entire community for a day of musical festivities at Lakeside Park for 15 years running, in benefit of War Child Canada. A non-for-profit organization aiding children in war torn countries to reclaim an education they lost due to conflict. Completely organized and run by students from L.V. Rogers Secondary, planning for u...p to a year in advance with five core organizers and eighteen other youth volunteering for the day of. The event was an 18 hour day, from set up to take down; from warm up yoga to dancing until 10:30PM; Keep the Beat has it all. In total, donating over $150,000 since it first began in 2004, Keep the Beat is more than just your bake sale fundraiser. Although it’s understood that $11,500 will not end war, perhaps Keep the Beat has made an impact to those living in a refugee camp by providing better health care and education.
