Not forgetting the turmoil PR is causing internationally: Still no government in sight for Sweden. Proves a 5% threshold doesn't prevent serious problems. 18% hard-right party is preventing mainstream parties from forming a moderate coalition. With no sign of compromise, a snap election is looking more likely. But that could easily return a similar result and simply delay forming a new government. https://www.usnews.com//swedish-parliament-rejects-center-

While pages like FairVote BC and VotePRBC like to tell you that PR won't bring in extremist parties, in 2004 Harvard University’s Pippa Norris crunched the numbers on 23 years of Western European elections and concluded that radical right parties were more than twice as successful in gaining seats under PR as under majoritarian elections. (Norris, P. (2004). Does PR promote political extremism, redux. Representation, 40(3), 226-229.) They also say it doesn't hinder accountab...ility. If Canada’s in tatters by this time next year, voters will know they can put the blame exclusively on Justin Trudeau. This is harder to do in Belgium, where Prime Minister Charles Michel could lay blame on one of the three other parties comprising his coalition. Finally, while Pro-PR wants you to believe that you won't have to vote strategically, Abramson et al. (2010) found that strategic voting might increase with PR. Wow! (Abramson, P. R., Aldrich, J. H., Blais, A., Diamond, M., Diskin, A., Indridason, I. H., ... & Levine, R. (2010). Comparing strategic voting under FPTP and PR. Comparative Political Studies, 43(1), 61-90.) https://nationalpost.com//why-first-past-the-post-isnt-to-

PR (Proportional Representation) will ensure a significant portion of those MLAs will not be accountable to anyone but their party. Todd Whitcombe, Prince George Citizen, October 8, 2018 #PropRep #bcpoli #NoBCProRep

Proportional Representation is already complicated and confusing. Don't let it put BC at risk! Say NO to Proportional Representation and keep our simple, stable and successful First Past The Post system. #NoBCProRep www.nobcprorep.ca/donate

I don’t like proportional representation, Clark said. Clark, premier from 1996 to 1999, said he’s not a fan of any system where he would be voting for someone whose name is on a party list one of the proposals in the current referendum, the mixed-member option. I like to vote for the person who represents me, Clark said. I want to vote for someone who’s going to be accountable.... If you really want to get more representation, get more seats, he said. https://biv.com//former-ndp-premier-glen-clark-votes-no-el

Sent by a supporter - interesting that Student Unions are charging students mandatory fees, and then breaking the law with them. Dirty tricks like these are being used to push #PR in #bcpoli. All the more reason to keep #FPTP in BC. ... #stackeddeck #riggedgame

During the last provincial election in British Columbia, voters in the Vancouver-Fraserview riding decided they had enough of BC Liberal MLA Suzanne Anton and voted her out. In Surrey-Fleetwood, voters did the same thing to Peter Fassbender. But under a mixed member proportional representation-style electoral system, senior cabinet ministers like Anton and Fassbender would likely have seats in the Legislative Assembly in Victoria for life, regardless of what voters think of them.

In normal circumstances, the Times Colonist does not support candidates or parties in elections. But on this occasion, we will take a position: B.C. should reject proportional representation. Under PR, policy is hammered out after the election is over, not before it. Backroom deals and bargaining sessions determine the path forward, in some cases dictated by fringe parties who would never be elected to govern. This is not democracy.... https://www.timescolonist.com//editorial-b-c-voters-should
