15 years ago today, I lost my birth dad to #suicide. Gerry loved living life in the fast lane, especially on his 1981 #Harley #shovelhead or ripping down the d...rag strip in his #amcamx. I've been carting around his Harley all these years but never found someone to rebuild it, until 2 days ago. My neighbour Mike, loves restoring bikes, he's got at least a dozen in his garage, along with 4 60`s & 70's muscle cars. He invited me over to take a look at he's got over a dozen fully restored bikes and another dozen stripped down into parts. I asked if he'd be interested in restoring it and he said his dream bike to restore was a panhead or shovelhead. I asked if I could help do it with him and he's all over that idea! Some times the stars align and I can't wait to work on this project with him over the next year :) If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts or mental health, you can reach out to: The Canada Suicide Prevention Service Need help? I love this video from NowThis of these young women advocating in such a powerful way on behalf of humanity. It might seem that what they want changed is a smal...l thing, but every change is part of a larger vision. No change is small. No advocacy is small. Moving humanity forward starts with each of us deciding to use our voices on behalf of others in a calm, powerful way. A sign that says People Workingsends a different message than one that says simply Men Working. It sends an inclusive message that’s good for all of us. Think of ways to use your voice to benefit humanity. One sign at a time helps one person at a time! Let me know how you are moving humanity forward in the comments below! #movehumanityforward

Last November, I shot this video for the Nova Scotia League of Equal Opportunities as a lived experience piece on invisible disabilities and neurodiversity. I ...didn't share it then, because I was in the midst of another depression, in fact barely made it to the shoot and cried multiple times filming it. When it came out and was posted on the Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities website nsleo.com on December 3rd, 2020 for the International Day of persons with disabilities, I ignored it because I was in such a dark place that I thought it would do more harm, than good to post it. 11 years ago, I got a diagnosis of anxiety depression and ADHD that changed my life and led me to start ADDvocacy.org. Over the past 6 years however, the frequency of depressive episodes have got worse and worse, along with what I now understand as hypomania. I realised after this last bout, that there was something more at play here, bipolar 2. Bipolar II disorder (pronounced "bipolar two") is a form of mental illness. Bipolar II is similar to bipolar I disorder, with moods cycling between high and low over time. However, in bipolar II disorder, the "up" moods (hypomania) never reach full-blown mania. ADHD can mimic this as well, but not to the same extremes as I've experienced. My family suspected bipolar for years but I didn't want to accept it due to the stigma that comes along with it. Realizing this has been a blessing, because it gives me an answer to to WHY I have been feeling this way. I am on a waiting list to get into the mood disorders clinic at the IWK in Halifax, started attending the free virtual Mens Mental Heatlth support group with Healthy Minds Cooperative and the local Bipolar Suport Group. I lost my birth dad to suicide in 2006. He never got treatment for his mental health and we lost him at the age of 50. I'm turning 46 next week and have so much I want to accomplish in the second half of my life. I am fortunate to have the self awareness and a strong support network around me, along with the insight to get the treatment I need but many aren't. On the plus side, I've run ADDvocacy for 9 years and worked with thousands of inspirational neurodiverse youth and adults with similar challenges, have a beautiful home, amazing friends and family and live a life filled with purpose and passion. If you notice your friends and family are sick or struggling, help them connect to the supports that are available in our health care system and communities, before it's too late. #bellletstalk2021 #bipolar2 #ADHD #depression #anxiety #itsokaytonotbeokay #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #neurodiversity Halifax Chamber of Commerce TEAMWork Cooperative Skills Canada-Nova Scotia Check out the video, there's a strong message of hope amongst my pain. https://vimeo.com/482657924

Social work addresses clients' needs in the context of their environment (e.g. family, culture, community). Coverage for social work counselling and therapy mak...es mental health care more accessible for rural Nova Scotians, and offers greater provider choice for diverse communities. Private practitioners with a wide variety of clinical specializations are uniquely placed to help people where they are and when they need it, right across the province. Does your benefit plan include services from Registered Social Workers? If not, visit http://bit.ly/coverNS for resources and information.

Psychologists are worried about the mental health toll of rising COVID-19 cases, tightening restrictions and shortening days, and that it could lead into what one expert called a "long, dark winter."
