Welcome to my weekly show "How to Care for a Loved One with Dementia." This week I'm talking about a common symptom of dementia - the person with dementia doesn't think there's anything wrong with them! Listen in to learn why this happens, how it's different than denial, and what you can do as a caregiver.
This seems like a relevant quote for the times we live in. Lots of work to do in the world but it begins with loving yourself first.
I will be going off Facebook for a while. My videos will be available on YouTube. Stay safe, healthy and home.

Do you have a dog photo to share? A Halifax woman who lives in a long-term care facility is trying to ward off boredom with books, but says being cut off from her family, friends and job is taking its toll. Twenty-nine-year-old Vicky Levack has cerebral palsy and lives at Arborstone Enhanced Care. She isn't allowed to have visitors due to the risk of COVID-19.... While she's not able to visit her family or friends, Levack is asking people on social media to keep her company by sharing photos of their dogs.
I recently won a photo contest! Mount Saint Vincent University where I'm taking my Master's in Gerontology degree was asking for people to submit photos that represent family. The purpose of the contest was to come up with a photo for the cover of the booklet for the undergraduate degree in Family Studies and Gerontology. Here's the winner! This photo was taken on Boxing Day 2017. I had just given dad a kiss on the cheek when he held up his thumb and said, "it doesn't get any better". I agree with you dad! It's one of many cherished memories I have of the time we spent together.
Welcome to my weekly show "How to Care for a Loved One with Dementia". This week I chat about a symptom of dementia called confabulation. It sounds like the person with dementia is telling lies! Listen in to find out why the person isn't lying and what to do if you're accused of something you didn't do!
"Self-care is never a selfish act - it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer to others." Chances are you have many gifts you were put on earth to offer and one of them may be your gift of caregiving. Taking care of yourself is as important as the care you give to others.
