PREGNANT BELLY MASSAGE! Did you know you can have your belly massaged during your prenatal treatment?? Often the pregnant belly is treated very clinically throughout pregnancy. Naturally, we become very protective over our bellies. It can be very beneficial for mom and baby to have a therapist introduce positive, non-invasive touch to the area. ... The surrounding tissues go through a lot of changes during pregnancy and are working around the clock to support baby. Relaxing the muscles and providing some relief for the stretching tissues can be a great addition to your self care routine. Belly massage can also help reduce rib pain and breathing discomfort! Did you know this was an option during pregnancy? Would you give it a try? @clearwaterphysio

Here's another common misconception with prenatal massage. Having a high-risk pregnancy does NOT you have to avoid massage because it is unsafe or more risky. It just means that depending on the reason you are deemed high-risk we may need to make some changes to your treatment plan and positioning when you're laying on the massage table. Please don't think that just because you're high risk you need to live in pain . ... If you have any questions feel free to reach out anytime! See more

My favorite self care tool. The Lacrosse ball! And let me tell you guys, As an RMT I've tried so many different self care tools. I always just come back to this one. I think I keep one everywhere. My purse, the car, at work etc. I recommend them to all my clients to help manage tension between appointments. ... It's so versatile and can be used on so many different areas. Between the shoulders, hips, feet etc. How do you use it you ask? You roll on it! Similar to foam rolling except it's more specific. However, I recommend starting out against a wall. It's easier to control the amount of pressure. Have you used a lacrosse ball? What's your favorite area to work on? See more

You guys! Stop with the aggressive boob massage. There is no need to press super hard if you have a clogged milk duct. Digging your fingers in there and pressing hard is likely making things worse and causing more inflammation. Consistant gentle massage will give you way better results than inconsistent aggressive massage. ... Taking a warm bath or using a warm towel compress around the breast before beginning massage techniques can be beneficial. Gentle sweeping motions directed towards the arm pit can help with inflammation and congestion. Work in front of the lump with gentle circles, tapping and vibrations directed TOWARDS the nipple. You can hand express between techniques if its a stubborn clog. If you can, have baby feed or use a pump to get the milk moving after the massage. As always you're welcome to come see me if you have a clogged duct and I can work on it and educate you on what to do at home . See more

With that being said things are going to be a little different around the clinic until things are back to normal. ... Here's an outline of what it will be like when you come in for a treatment! 1. When you arrive you will be screened for your risk of COVID-19. This will be done with a questionnaire and temperature check. 2. Why you didn't know breast massage was a thing - Although I was actually trained in breast massage back in Massage school. I wasn't totally confident in the treatment. I had never heard of it until our instructor said we'd be learning it. So, once I started practicing I just didn't bother offering it. ... It wasn't until I started doing more work with the perinatal population that I had that ah ha! moment and realized everyone could benefit from this. So, I took some extra courses. Breast massage isn't widely practiced in North America. We can thank the stigma behind it for that. People see breasts as a "taboo" subject. This area of the body has been over sexualized and causes clients not to want to have it treated and also therapists to not want to offer the treatment. If you go to other parts of the world tho breast massage is often included in a full body massage . So why is that? Why has our society made this such a taboo topic and caused so many people to not seek treatment for issues that can often be resolved through massage. We need to stop sexualizing breast tissue. Its a functioning part of our bodies. Instead of associating them with only breastfeeding, disease, pain etc. Maybe we start being preventative and take care of them just like you would the rest of your body! See more

This is a great article explaining what we've been dealing with in Alberta with regards to Massage Therapy not being a Regulated Health Care Profession. Fingers crossed we finally make some headway with it soon! Https://www.cbc.ca//alberta-massage-therapists-christy-kas
