As an executive coach, I hear many leaders complain about how their employees don’t take feedback or criticism well. When I ask if the leader has ever asked for feedback on how they could improve their impact on employees, or if the leader has shared what is hard for them, the answer is usually no. It takes vulnerability to open oneself up to criticism. Most of us avoid feeling vulnerable, and yet it’s invaluable for self-awareness and connection - skills that enable really hard conversations.
