B'ys, I can't even begin to thank you for the love on this little project that could! Over 1500 views in the last day and a half, I'm totally overwhelmed. It's ...a vulnerable thing to put yourself out there but I went into this with so much passion and luv. I've always lacked confidence in my skills as a piano player and have spent a lot of this pandemic practicing, many hours, to grow and get better. It's easy to become stagnant in your "job" but evolving and growing in the arts is one of the most exciting and fulfilling things I've experienced. There is SO MUCH to learn and cultivate and despite the shittiness of the past year there have been some gifts. One of them has been honouring my desire to become better at what I do, and it was glorious to have been given the gift of a little extra time to dig in. At least a kick start. Ann and Nancy Wilson were idols for me as a little girl who wanted NOTHING MORE than to rock and roll and have a voice that was heard. I even took a bus to Paradise in '98 with $5 and a water in my napsack and posed as a "dancer" at the back gate to get in to see Ann Wilson when she played "Paradise Rocks" because I didn't have the money for a ticket. When I look back on it I chuckle. So much gratitude to Justin Merdsoy for mixing this for me and having my back to guide me through learning software to record at home and killing the mix with his crazy ear and talent. Also, Pat Dempsey, I knew you were amazing, but you hit it out of the park. The time you took to create this video, you eye and ideas, and the safe space you provided and created for me, and what we wanted to say was incredible! You are so talented and I'm in awe. Thanks to the friends Keith Power, Ann Connors, Mike Whee who lent us TV's and Terra Bruce Productions who allowed us the use of their gorgeous new space to make this! Well it's been a year of pivot! Finding ways to do things a little different. A chance to learn new skills and be innovative. Rock City Studio was no different.... I've always put a lot of value in live performance and collaboration with my students. Fostering the skills required to perform live, deal with nerves, memory work, tuning and ear training for harmonies, blend, etc are things I LOVE to work on! Three of my amazing kiddos spent a few weeks in a studio based covid-safe setting this fall learning and recording their parts for our little Christmas offering. I'm not a tech geek AT ALL so it was a super learning curve for me as well! The snow fell yesterday as they sang their hearts out in the park!
