How does your body support itself when you use one arm vs two? . Playing around on the reformer with double & single arm work to challenge the core. It may not look hard but first you need to be able to access your inner core to support your back & pelvis (or you will find doing arm work makes your back, neck & shoulders sore). Then you can increase the weight of the springs to add more challenge to the arms & core. . The reformer can feel so supportive or so challengin...g which makes it a great choice for someone just beginning to move & someone who has been moving a lot & ready for more of a challenge. . P.S. This is not what I have been up to lately. An unexpected surgery has temporarily sidetracked my movement at the moment. But I know following my restrictions and slowly building movement back in will be more beneficial to my body in the long run...even though it feels harder to resist for the short term. See more

New Blog Post. If you have been curious about Block Therapy I have a new blog post on my website. Here is small excerpt:... My all time favourite release tool is the Block Buddy, & as a Block Therapy instructor I am always amazed at how the Block can help a client unlock their movement potential. But the number one question I hear is, what exactly is the Block? The Block is a therapeutic tool created by Deanna Hansen of Fluid Isometrics. It’s purpose is to help you melt through restrictions in fascia tissue caused from aging, injury, & surgery. visit www.kellybuttonpilates.com/blog/what-is-block-therapy

Pilates is about . RELEASE - sometimes you need to release a muscle before you can activate it. If you are always clenching a muscle (glutes are common in postpartum) it's going to be really hard to activate that muscle when you need it. . TRUST - trust that your body will support you in the movement - and the equipment too ;)... . SURRENDER - there is no place for perfection only for movement. Let go of the idea it has to look a certain way & just feel your body move. . LEARNING - when you get through the first 3 magic happens. You listen, feel, & learn about YOUR body. . Have you tried a Pilates class? Did it feel like this? See more

RELEASE... . This month I want you to think about releasing. We are settling into fall & getting ready to get cozy. Things are starting to slow down. What can we let go of so we can create more space for joy . . It can be physical, mental, emotional or maybe all of the above. ... . Teaching has taught me that our thoughts, emotions, & feelings are not separate of our body. . I have had the privilege of watching clients go through an emotional release while trying to do a physical release (rolling, block, stretching). . They often did not realize that emotion was sitting there waiting to resurface once they gave it space. . They did not realize that emotion was creating that nagging tension their body. . What can you release this month? It can be physical, mental, emotional? How can movement help? Share below. See more

Block Therapy is all about releasing. During a class you will melt through restrictions in fascia tissue caused from aging, & injury. The goal is to use your body weight, gravity, & diaphragmatic breathing to create a heating effect that melts through restrictions. ... The RESULT is improved blood and oxygen flow to your cells.

Things you may feel after a block therapy session... * more GROUNDED * like you just had a MASSAGE * FATIGUE (give your body some time to rest)... * FREE (like your body can move easily) * RELEASE (stretched out) If you've tried Block Therapy I would love to hear how you felt afterwards? What impact has it had on your life?
